Well...I can tell you that my first and only Pogue Show...

Post Mon Dec 31, 2007 1:37 am

Was in my hometown of Cincinnatti, Ohio USA during the Peace and Love tour...at the Vine Street Tavern in 1991 and I watched Shane McGowan absolutely bring hell down upon the stage in a drunken stupor for nearly 30 minutes...He cursed the crowd and its "American Fuckers...Fuck Bat Man...Fuck all..." let me see here....he fell down a couple times...tried to use the mic stand to support his frail body...all 145 lbs. of his heroin wasted skin and bones...shot the bird a few times to us... and was met by a roar of boos and cat calls...then the poor band looked over at him...they kept playing and the tension built and finally he sauntered off backstage and the rest of the band played a mere 45 minutes after...yeah...kind of a let down...I absolutely love Shane's raw throaty Irish Tenor voice and hope he is clean now...I have absolutely been moved by the Pogues like no other band save the Smiths (yes in a dreamy emo way...) and still count them amongst the best of the best despite the absolutely brutal show in Cincy...

I'm buggered if I know how musicians and other artists create under the influence? I mean I realise the whole prying open the third eye thing for a bit of conscience streaming but I've tried writing on all manner or substance (nothing too hard) and it mostly just comes out as airy fairy shite. I write much better when I'm healthy, with my wits about me and sternly focused. I find a clear mind helps to clear a path to well ideas up from inside. I got to admit a few tipples doesn't exactly hurt the process but I never truly understood the 'drugs writing the songs' thing that seems to go on with alot of musicians. Musicians write music as far as I'm concerned

I think people have various potential. Some of it is discovered during the course of life by "natural" means. And some of it can be unlocked by drugs. Or meditation, or hypnosis. But - there´s the but - most people who want "out of the world" experience do drugs, as it´s the fastest and it looks to be the simplest way. It works for some of them, it doesn´t for others - that´s the way things go I guess :-)

Good point, meditation or concentration of oneself from oneself for that matter is like the winding dirtroad route. Arduous, but you're granted a strength through resistance. Where as in a way drugs can do the same thing but you're being hurtled along on the superhighway. You get there a whole lot faster but your experience hasn't been dubbed with the same sinew as if you slogged it out for the long run.

My opinion with drugs. Well with anything really is you don't get something for nothing. To be granted knowledge or an experience one has to give something of themselves away. That's just the natural cycle of energy
