The article was an interesting read, but I find it sad that Seeger dismisses any other version of the song, because 'they didn't understand the loneliness of the song'. Different people find loneliness in different places. Where someone finds it in being alone, someone else will find it in the middle of a crowd. Here are obviously some words that ring true for people from very different backgrounds, which in my book is a brilliant achievement.

Ironically enough I see the article as an expression of that very same loneliness, or her particular colour of it, anyway. She obviously misses her husband a lot, but putting him up on a pedestal and protecting his work by dismissing the interpretations of other artists isn't doing his memory any good. Or his music alive.

As has been said, most artists re-interpret and cover works by other artists out of love. It's a compliment, not competition.
