Questions: Bottle of Smoke & Turkish Song of the Damned

Post Tue Apr 05, 2005 4:08 am

To knowledgeable people (in the band or not!):

So on “Bottle of Smoke” there’s a tap-tap-tapping sound. Are those the "bones” and who is playing them? Also, in some bootlegs (..erhm... "live recordings") of “Turkish Song of the Damned” there is kickass, eerie intro - was this an original part of the song that was scrapped inthe studio? Why didn’t this make it into the Reunion gigs? It sounds really cool as everyone in the crowd wonders "what the fuck are these guys doing" and then the guitar rips into it, guns blazing.

yeah it's a real shame they didn't revive the Turkish intro for the reunion tours. it was great and it gave you something extra from the plain studio version. YYYY is another case in point. If they'd included all the stuff they use to do on stage it would have made the Live At Brixton album diff from the studio versions, better.

I think the "tapping" on Bottle of Smoke is Andrew playing on the edge of the snare-drum, sort of like he does on Battle of Brisbane and in the middle of Repeal of The Licensing Laws.

Yes I always assumed it was Mr Ranken tapping the rim of the snare drums.
So be easy and free when your drinking with me..
