Yeah me too.

You should be here in Oz on Anzac Day (April 25th)....ANYONE can sing that song, even me, and be guaranteed a chance at making the tears flow.... Eric bloody Bogle, you ripper....

There's a guy, Bob Kerrey, who was a Navy SEAL and a Vietnam veteran. He lost part of one of his legs in combat and won a Medal of Honor. Later, he was governor of the state of Nebraska, and still later he was later a U.S. senator from Nebraska. I've never heard him sing the song, but he's known for singing it. I don't get the impression that he's got a great voice, but it seems that, given his personal history, on occasions when he's sung it in public, it never fails to bring tears to people's eyes.

Bob Kerry is an amazing man and even made a very very short run for President years ago. I've had the honor of meeting him once and I even named one of my little dolls after him when I was a little girl. hehe

Got to be 'Rainy Night in Soho'

and of course 'Hen Wlad fy Nhadau' (Land of my Fathers)
Last night as I slept I dreamt I met with Behan, I shook him by the hand as we passed the time of day.

Songs that make you cry?

Post Thu Jan 25, 2007 12:28 am

Just wondering, any Pogues songs ever bring a tear to your eye?

For some reason I get choked up every time I hear Thousands are Sailing. It's just such a sad song and for some reason the sadness in it really gets to me. Also London You're a Lady and Lullaby of London. And sometimes FoNY because of the memories it brings back of someone I love and miss very much.

Which songs get to you the most and why?

Waltzing Matilda hits me like a hammer.
Allow not nature more than nature needs, man's life is cheap as beast's.

yes waltzing matilda for sure
and the old main drag

ahhh you asked why
well i would think waltzing matilda is obvious

but the old main drag just always reminds me of why i hate cities
it's a perfect ode to the apalling conditions we humans make ourselves live in
it makes me think of all the uncles i have who have lived the same lives
The girl cried out a few times and the old man slept with his mouth wide open and his bad teeth showing.

I don't usually cry for Pogues songs, but that all changed at the MEN Arena in December when out of the blue Philip dedicated Thousands to me (amongst others).

Felt a bit of a prat sobbing my heart out because a song had been dedicated to me.

Now everytime I hear Phil's version the memories come flooding back (as if I could forget) and I start all over again.

Depends upon the context in which they're heard, but at times any of the above-mentioned can do this. And more. Especially The Parting Glass, and of course Kitty.

But they'd be good tears. :)

And thankfully I don't have the mascara problem. Well, not usually, anyway.
