at first I didn't mind his cover of Fairytale but then I thought to myself that he didn't actually sound like Ronan Keating, and only a couple of nights ago i relised he's doing a terrible Shane MacGowan impression. thats why I'm not to keen on it.

the last song on joe strummer's new album. now..i like the clash. not love.
and strummer's not great. but i like him....

but the last song is about all of the things he wants to do before he "grows too old"
and it was the last song he recorded before he died.

how sad is that?! it's a sad sounding song... but so positive.

And the song they sang was the "Jug of Punch"

I think "Grow Too Old" was first released by Fats Domino. But Joe's version really makes it a sad song. Richard Manuel (of The Band) also used this song to open his concerts in 1985, one year before he killed himself.

I also don't think that Joe Strummer sounds as good on his solo albums than he did at his concerts with the Mescaleros. I once heard a recording of his last show and the energy is amazing!

Yep. There are days (and nights) when you just have to listen to Nebraska. Brilliant. Bruce's new album ain't bad too.

yeah, that's the one. The versions of Police on my Back and Bhindi Bhagee are absolutely fantastic and blow the studio versions away. This concert has impressed me more than the Clash live recordings I've heard.

Two stand out - "Pair of Brown Eyes" and "Waltzing Matilda"
Two very sad emotional stories that always bring a bit of a tear to my eyes with the lyrics.
Of course, "Fairytale..." also just because of what it represents.

A few poignant songs.

Tomorrow Wendy by Concrete Blonde. Preferably live. Preferably acoustic. It's a flat out powerful song.

From the Pogues, Thousands Are Sailing and The Broad Majestic Shannon.

In My Life by the Beatles.

El Sol by Mark Lanegan.

Time by Pink Floyd.

Theres a song called "homeless" by Guy Clark that always puts a lump in my throat. also "sam stone" by John Prine and Rainy Night in Soho. Beautiful version of that one at Brixton last christmas too.
