Murder

I own the Box Set from the Pogues and there are 2 versions of a ska track called "Murder". Does anybody have the songtext of that song? I can't get everything, because it's quite fast and my knowledge of English isn't that great. I prefer version 1 by the way. The intro is brilliant and the melody and whole sound of the song as well.

I think each version has different lyrics, but I have no texts of either. In both cases, they are laments about Margaret Thatcher, who was the most rightwing Prime Minister Britain ever had until Tony Blair came along.

Is version 1 live or studio? The intro is at least from Gothenburg 89, when The Sexy Bongos was the support act. At that gig Shane introduced Greenland Whalefisheries with "This is even older than The Sexy Bongos" :D

Version 1 is a demo, from Falconer Studios I think. I added Spider's blood-curdling rant from the live concert, one of the only times we actually played "Murder" live, when I was preparing the box set. You sure it's from Sweden? It seems rather heavy on the Regions of the UK.

Version 2 is from the Hell's Ditch recordings in Wales.

I´m quite sure it´s from Sweden since I have a recording of the show.

Thanks a lot Mr. Chevron! I thought the intro was made in a studio as well (with the idea of sounding like a live performance), because I didn't know that you ever played "Murder" live.

I read in the newspaper some months ago that Margaret Thatcher now has got something like Alzheimer's disease. Did you ever think about lining up in front of her house and reviving "Murder", like the Sex Pistols did with "God Save the Queen" on the queen's birthday? :D only joking

Even assuming the old bat knows she was ever PM , sometimes you just have to let go of your enmity. It does strike me as both poignant and fitting that she has to be told regularly that her two men - Denis Thatcher and Ronald Reagan - are no longer available to her. Maybe we really do sometimes get the hell we deserve.

Yeah, you're right. I have to say that I don't know that much about her, I'm 18 and I never lived under her "dictatorship". What I've read and heard about her was not very positive., though. I suppose you could compare her to somebody like Roland Koch, the minister of our federal land "Hessen". Extremely right-wing orientated. A real wanker...

Anyway great that you are in this forum and so open-minded about questions! I think James Fearnley is here, too. Any other Pogues on board?
