The Gentleman Soldier

Post Wed Mar 23, 2005 10:50 am

Just listening again to "The Gentleman Soldier" on Rum, Sodomy...
Trying to work out exactly who sings which bit, as there are different "voices" in the song. I think I can work it out, but does anyone know for sure?
(It wrecks my voice when I try to sing the "female" part!)

It is the Almighty Toothless One who sings it all the way.

Really? I started off assuming it was all Shane, but over the years convinced myself there was more than one voice there (probably a bit of Spider). If it's all Shane, it's an amazing vocal feat.

Shane said somewhere that there is no such thing as a Gentleman Soldier.

Well, I dunno, but it still sounds more like Spider singing the "soldier" voice on Rum, Sodomy...

Yeah - but it sounds way from the Rum, Sodomy & the Lash version...

The first Pogues song I noticed -- always thought it was Shane all the way through, but later had my doubts. "Whistle Player", would you please clarify?
