According to notinhalloffame.com The Pogues are at 186 of the list of who should be nominated, apparently because Ireland already has a representative. And also because of the work of The Treacherous Three, et al.

Great link, though it looks like it could be a serious time waster...

Found an article that says the Pogues are one of five acts that should be in the HOF:

Creating an identifiable sub-genre should be enuf, i think. Mind you, you could argue Horslips were first...

But really, it's the Rock 'n Roll hall of lame, as Mojo sang it, so who cares. "They should have put it in Memphis, you know that in your soul".

They've announced the 2012 nominees:

Performer:
Guns N' Roses
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Donovan
Laura Nyro
The Small Faces/The Faces
Beastie Boys

Early Influence:
Freddie King

Sidemen:
Don Kirshner
Cosimo Matassa
Tom Dowd
Glyn Johns

This year, there were just fifteen nominees in the performer category, and the shortlist was a bit more diverse, including The Cure, Eric B. & Rakim, Heart, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Rufus with Chaka Khan, Donna Summer, and War. G'nR were first-time nominees.

Donna Summer at the R'n'R Hall of Fame induction ceremony concert, THERE"S a show I wanna be at!

The nominees are out. No Pogues, but Los Lobos were nominated so there may be hope.

Again, imo, too many non-Rock nominees-Janet Jackson, Chaka Khan, The Spinners, NWA, etc.

Vote here: http://rockhall.com/voting/2016-rock-an ... nees-vote/

I went the traditional route, went by seniority-Deep Purple, Yes, Steve Miller, Cars (from Boston), Cheap Trick

I have to be honest, there is one nominee the J.B's I have never heard of...

A bit of hypocrisy there Mike. The Pogues are as far from rock as those you mention.

I assume it's the same J.B.'s who where James Brown's band... Seriously funky (check out "Doin it to Death"), and about as rock as... well, The Pogues...

Mojo Nixon - Rock n' Roll Hall of Lame

It's a cryin' shame
What they did to our thing
All of the spirit
Out of it they did drain

On the shores of Lake Erie
Man, there is a committee
It's a corporation
Don't know nothin' 'bout fornication
A sick abomination
Ought to be cast out of our nation

It's a Rock and Roll Hall of Lame
Rock and Roll Hall of Shame
Rock and Roll, Rock and Roll, Rock and Roll Hall of Lame

Why'd they put it in Cleveland?
Well, you know it was because of the money
Should be down in Memphis
You know that in your heart, sonny

Black ties and limousines
Sure was a real hoity-toidy scene
Yeah, but the spirit's all wrong
It's uptown and mean

Let me tell ya
Real rock and roll's about cheap electrical guitars
And maps to secret places that serve underage kids in bars

Not no rock and Roll Hall of Lame
Rock and Roll Hall of Shame
Rock and Roll Hall of Lame

If there was really a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
They'd have a drug ATM (I'd be there)
There'd be a drive-in movie theater
Showing "Thunder Road" and "Vanishing Point"
It'd be a monument to teenage sex
They'd be handing out free copies of "On The Road"
"Fear and Loathing" and "Steal This Book"
They'd be giving fake IDs to teenagers
Because if you're under 21 but over 18 you shouldn't be able to drink
It'd be a Rock and Roll, Rock and Roll, Rock and Roll, Rock and Roll
A really Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but that ain't what it is
It's nothin' but a big lie (nothin' but a big lie)
Don't believe the big lie (don't believe the big lie)
Rock and Roll will never die
(Bring it way down, boys)
As long as there's a 13-year-old kid
As long as on the planet Earth there's a 13-year-old kid
Wantin' to masturbate on the playground and start singin' like Little Richard
Rock and Roll will be here
'Cause rock and roll is in the air, it's in your underwear, it don't care
Rock and Roll's not in limousines
Rock and Roll's not rich and mean
Rock and Roll Hall of Lame
Rock and Roll Hall of Shame
It's nothin' but a Rock and Roll Hall of Lame

Rock and Roll Hall of Lame
Rock and Roll Hall of Shame
Rock and Roll Hall of Lame

The Eagles?!? The Eagles?!? Who are you kidding?
These putrid pop pukes belong in the Whore Hall of Fame
That's where I'm gonna put The Eagles
Oh you think Otis Redding's gonna be happy to see The Eagles?
He's gonna kick Glenn Frey's ass!

Fleetwood Mac?!? Fleetwood Mac?!? Jesus Christ!
What is worse than Fleetwood Mac, the Archies or somethin'?
Oh, Christine McVie, she's so rock and roll
She looks like a damn housewife!
Why don't she go to Celine Dion's house and get bucknaked
I'm gonna get on top of both 'em
Make a videotape, make a lot of money
Rock and Roll, Rock and Roll, Rock and Roll, Rock and Roll
Rock and Roll is in my soul!

... and yet "Hamlet Chicken Plant Disaster" is an amazing work of art, a timeless folk song about a modern industrial tragedy:

I was fond of his stuff with The Toadliquors. Saw them live once, the first half was dominated by kind of dumb stuff (although his ability to improvise lyrics and rants is amazing), but the second half, starting with "Hamlet..." was fantastic and I was blown away at how damn good songs and band were. At the end of my day i've made a Mojo playlist with a handful of my favourites, as a lot of his stuff has not aged well and/or is not rewarded by much repeat listening in the first place.
