The Rock and Roll hall of Fame is a Sham... $1200 a seat or somthing like that? Why ot just have the pogues play an show or do a US tour? In my opinion that would be a better use of the resources and a better tribute to the band- the fact you're still 1 million times better and still peroform when most of the bands inducted anymore haven't been good in 20 years.

Why do you think The Sex Pistols refused their nomination!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great Bands have to pay an institution money to remind them, "hey I'm famous."

Hello all,

With the new year approaching it is worth mentioning that 2009 marks the 25th anniversary of the release of Red Roses for Me, which makes The Pogues eligible for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as of 2009. I believe this is a well deserved honour.

Any of you read a biography about CCR? The story about their induction is funny and sad. The members thought this would be their chance to let their children see why daddy was famous so they all practiced their numbers. When they got there John said: no way I'll ever play with you again, I'm playing with springsteens band.. Aiaiai

Wasn't there a similar debacle with Blondie? I seem to remember seeing something about it on a documentary.

Yes, something like that...

Creedence Clearwater Revival was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993 on the first ballot. Tom Fogerty's widow, Tricia, expecting a Creedence reunion, brought the urn containing his ashes for the ceremony. Tom's son, Jeff, a professional musician, was also on hand to take his father's place as rhythm guitarist for the traditional post-awards live set. John, however, not only refused to perform with fellow bandmates Stu and Doug, but also had them barred from the stage while he played with an all-star band that included Bruce Springsteen and Robbie Robertson

Wow. John Fogarty seems like a real sh--head (or at least he was back then).....You'd think after all he had to go through with not "owning" his music for so many years, that he'd be more considerate about that. Now I wish I hadn't bought some of his solo LPs. Maybe he's changed his tune in the 15+ years since then?

After reading their biography I do think he was a shit head yes. He made stupid mistakes and blamed others. When making their last album he said the other members had to make their own songs. He only would do 1/3 and not a note more. He even wouldn't play any instruments on theirs.. I think his solo records are quite good in my opinion. On "centerfield" there are two songs directed at CCR's record boss by Fantasy Records, Saul Zaentz. Zanz kant danz and Mr greed. The story go's that Zaents financed "one flew over the cuckoo's nest" with the money of CCR

Get 'em in there man.

A band full of fantastically varied musicianship, master lyricists like Mr MacGowan and Mr Chevron and purveyors of some of the most wonderful songs ever to grace this wee planet of ours.

They should be in there for 'Thousands are Sailing' alone !

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees announced: Hollies, Jimmy Cliff, Stooges and Genesis. Oh, and of course, the one group that defines Rock and Roll:
ABBA

The Stooges! Well, at least they got something right. Pitty it came too late for Ron Ashton. Not that he probably woulda cared, but still... hm, Wikipedia says "The band had previously been nominated for election seven times, each unsuccessful. So now successful why? 'Cause somebody's dead? Bastards.

I have to say....I'm happy the Small Faces got nominated (another one of my favorite bands). It's stupid to connect them with The Faces....which were pretty much a different band despite 3 members being the same.....but I'll be happy if they get elected.

"- Joan Jett & the Blackhearts: No one has more rock 'n' roll attitude than Jett but, c'mon, the only way she deserves to get into the Hall of Fame is by buying a ticket. She had one big hit, and that one was a remake of someone else's song. I love Joan's music and, frankly, I'm a little afraid of her. But she's not Hall of Fame material."

Wow, Tom Szaroleta of Jacksonville(?) This just shows how subjective it is. This guy doesn't want a woman who was in The Runaways http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJLFOBR0gE4&feature=related, had solo hits and has been on tour continuously in the Hall? Just perusing her videos it's obvious she's had more than one hit, as well. Bad call.
