I didn't have those albums back in the summer. So, I ordered them together. Only Hell's Ditch came, though... and it wasn't even the remastered edition with the bonus material. Oh well. It's still brilliant. I think I'm going to try and get Peace and Love through Amazon... I'm just thankful I didn't have to pay for the albums BEFORE they shipped...

What I don't like about Peace and Love is the production. The vocals are mixed too low and I don't like the sound of the drums on this record. The snare is all over the place )Andrew's drumming is great as usual though). Considering what a great job Steve Lillywhite did with IISFFGWG, I was really disappointed with the production on P&L. Or am I misinterpreting the function of a producer?

Is it just my imagination, am I wrong... or is there a rather odd typo
on the Hell's Ditch re-issue?

You'll have to narrow that down. I'm told there are many odd typos on the reissues.

I figure that "Mudusa" must be the Brittish English spelling of the word. :)

Both albums are unique in their own way

Peace and Love, although most of it was written by other members of the group, was more close to the Pogues original sound than Hell's Ditch, and such songs as White City, Down All the Days, Boat Train, Young Ned of the Hill, Gartloney Rats, and London You're a Lady, could of all made appearances on earlier Pogues albums. Hell's Ditch, has more of a worldly vibe to it, being that Shane drew most of his influences from his time in Thailand.

Overall, remember Shane had embraced acid house rock, by the time the Pogues recorded Peace and Love, so that would explain the jazz influence throughout. Even though Shane disowns most of Hell's Ditch, it was still a very good album. But, Peace and Love still reminds me more of the Pogues of the old, so my vote is Peace and Love

Me thinks that the band didnt have enough good material for two albums at that time.If Peace and Hells had been incorporated into a single album it would have been a stormer.
White City,Young Ned,Misty Morning,Down All The Days,Lorelei,Gartloney Rats,Boat Train,London You,re a Lady,Sunnyside,Sayonara,Ghost of a Smile,Hells Ditch,Summer,Rain Street, Medusa.
What an album that would have been.
Theres no doubt that the genius was still there during that period.

From Peace and Love, I think "Night Train to Lorca" is a highly underrated song. The horn section is phenominal.

Peace and Love has some brilliant songs on it, but I prefer Hells Ditch, it's produced better.

Agreed Mike. One of the underrated gems from Finer's pen. I like his songs as well, Curse of Love & Bastard Landlord being my faves by his pen alone.
