you know what? you're right! Fuck the charts - just look at Fairytale of New York, outsold by the pet shop boys, but recently voted THE greatest Christmas record of all time on VH1 (and more than deservedly!) I'm sorry for this waste of a thread!

i have buy The ultimate collection and two reissued albums

Post Mon Mar 14, 2005 8:00 pm

 Hi from Spain.
I have received this week "The ultimate collection" and the reissued albums "Hell´s ditch" and "Red roses for me". An advice, it´s not necessary you buy "The ultimate..." , yes, the live 2001 reunion is good, but...
Instead, im very happy with the others records, GREAT, many pictures, amazing sound in "Red roses...", a precious booklet really.
Bye.
i am Francisco Vázquez García,
i am welcome to Almería.

I'm not sure I understand. Are you indicating that the quality (or quantity) of music on the Live disc does not justify the cost, or does the Studio disc simply seem irrelevant?

The live disc is fantastic, worth the money on its own. I haven't listened to the new "best of" collection yet, though of course I've listened countless times to all the tracks on it in different contexts... might feel like listening to them in a different order one day ;-)

I think this is probably the best Best of disc so far! all the tracks I consider to be the pogues best are on there - Rainy Night in Soho, Dirty Old Town, and for the first time, Thousands are sailing and Tuseday Morning! and who can rule out Fairytale of New York? THE greatest Christmas record of ALL TIME! the only song missing from the best of disc for me is probably Waxies Dargle! and the Live album is Fucking Wonderful - I would've been more than willing to have paid double for it! its a bargain for a double CD!

yeah, i agree, i would have paid the money for just the live disc, the other one is like a free bonus!!

they're both great compilations! and yes, i too miss Waxie's Dargle from them, but i compensate for that by playing red roses for me over and over, until my head can't take anymore :D

Ultimate Pogues: problem with my CD?

Post Tue Apr 05, 2005 5:48 pm

Hi,

I am from Canada and I just bought the Ultimate Pogues Collection from my record store. I went on Amazon.co.uk, and the track listing for the first CD counts 23 tracks.

Link

On the back of my CD case, it lists only 22. Is there some problem with my CD? I'm a man you don't meet everyday is not listed. I didn't listen to the first CD yet, the Live is too amazing. :)

No problem with the CD - "I’m A Man You Don’t Meet Every Day" has been removed from the final release.
I think it is a pity. Maybe anyone from the band could explain why it disappeared? :?:

Oh, and another question: who is the female voice on Fairytale? Cait didn't do the tour with them in 2001, am I right?

Who is Lila MacMahon? Is she from another band?

And isn't it stupid that the Live CD is considered as a bonus CD? I mean... I think that everybody who bought this album did it for the Live, not for the 10000e best of CD! :P

Maybe it was never released as a single, though I still think they shoulda put it on, then maybe have a current day photo with everyone in it. Well woulda sold more records!

Would Cait have been under any record company restrictions?
