Where's "I'm a man....." on new compilation

Post Thu Mar 10, 2005 1:00 pm

Hi there guys,
Why is "I'm a man you don't meet everyday" not on the Ultimate collection as on the front page of this site it is listed as being on it.
Have the record company decided to take it off.
Also "Haunted should have been there as well.
excellent live disc though!!

A good question. And Cait is missing from the cover pic...

The list of tracks I used was from early reports (back when Cait was still on the cover). I imagine that the track list might have changed since then.

Can somebody who has picked up the disc give me an accurate list of what's on it?

Thank you FireHazard. Updated.

Interestingly Amazon.com (and Amazon.co.uk) has the old evidently incorrect track listing.

Actually if you look at the track listing at (e.g.) amazon, they still have "I'm A Man..." on there (as track 22 of 23 on Disc 1). They also still have the cover pic with Cait. But neither is on the final version.

everyone likes different songs and stuff, so there's always going to be songs a lot of people think should have been on there but weren't.

Yeah, but it would be interesting to know why "I'm A Man..." was listed as one of the tracks, but was cut - apparently very late on in the production process. Does anyone have information on this?

Because Phil Chevron seems intent on airbrushing Cait from the history of the band?

Wish Mr. Chevron was here to see it and kick your arse for saying so. What makes you think so and spread nasty misinformed rumours?

I guess Mr. Chevron would have also been very helpful to clear the issue about late changes to the track list.
It was on the 23rd of June

A small bird sang on an ivy branch
And the song they sang was the "Jug of Punch"

Yes, when I posted the question I was kind of hoping that Mr Chevron or Mr Fearnley might be able to shed some light on it. I too don't imagine any Pogues-style Ministry of Truth doing any airbrushing. It's just that it's always intriguing to know how final track listings are compiled, and especially with very late changes like this one apparently was.

It would also be interesting to know how it was decided to have the lyrics of just four songs in the liner notes of the new album. I suppose it wasn't practical to have them all for such a substantial album, but why these four in particular?

Ultimate collection charts - at number 22?

Post Sun Mar 13, 2005 9:39 pm

I was eagerly listening to the Radio 1 album Chart countdown tonight, waiting to hear where The Pogues Ultimate Collection had entered, and to be honest I was dissapointed to hear it only reached 22 - seen as the band has such a large following all across the country, I don't know why people haven't gone out and bought the album! so can I PLEEEEEEEEEEEASE encourage anyone who hasn't got the album yet to go out and get it! I really think it deserves a higher position in the charts. I Love the Pogues, and I really thought it would at least get into the top twenty.
