Elvis C for "County Hell", Jem for Ned Miller's "Jack/King", Spider as Peter Sellers as Larry Olivier as Richard III on "Fenian Men". The missing middle piece is myself channeling Marlene.

"Produced" by Elvis C. Recorded as an Emergency B side at the butt end of a late night recording session at Elephant in 1985 but it turned out not even Stiff Records were that desperate for B Sides. After several cuts from the original tape in 2007, including Stiff supremo Dave Robinson rather badly reciting the words of "The Rocky Road to Dublin", the plan was to stick "Party Pieces" at the end of one of the box set CDs as a hidden track. But though myself and Nick Robbins laboured on this more than on almost any other track on the entire set, with the possible exception of "The Aria", we never came up with a version we could live with, so the lo-fi live recording of "Goodnight Irene" eventually replaced it.

It has probably now found its ideal home, floating about in the netosphere.

Where did u get that version of 'Lilibulero'? It sounds identical to the Brixton one but the quality is awesome.
I love it when a plan comes together.

The artist formerly known as Guest.

It is the Pogues/Chieftains one, from our Brixton show in 1991. I'm aware that this circulates on bootleg but actually, we did properly record that show with a Mobile Studio, just one of many potential live albums that never went ahead. The Pogues' own section (minus the Chieftains) is pretty good, with Shane in especially good voice. Our final year with Shane was full of such paradoxes. Martin Foyle's recording is from the Test CDs of the Box Set, which his brother John "won" for finding a tape of the BP Fallon Show/Pogues thingy. The Rhino Brothers could not clear permission from Paddy Moloney in time to make the box set's deadline, so "Lillibulero/The White Cockade" and "Biddy Mulligan, The Pride of the Coombe" were among a small number of casualties that dropped off the box set at a late stage.

hello!

I read in Carol Clerk's legendary biography that the Pogues recorded an acid house influenced track called 'Contact Yourself' during the Peace & Love sessions- but in the notes to the Pogue Mahone box set, one particular Pogue (i forget which one) denies the existance of such a track

please help! does this track exist or is it just another "Paul Is Dead" conspiracy theory

P.S. "Jack's Heroes" and "The Rare Auld Mountain Dew" recorded with The Dubliners, have not been released on CD (as far as i know)

The 1990 cd-single of YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH features Jacks's Heroes (today out on the remastered "Hell's Ditch"). Yep "Rare Auld Mountain Dew" hasn't been released on cd back in the day (now on the remastered "If I Should Fall From Grace With God").

"Contact Yourself" no longer exists and did so only briefly. It was never a serious option to offer a 20-minute acid house track to a petrified record company who already hated the album we did deliver. But try telling that to your lead singer when he's in the middle of an acid trip. Just saying.

Paul is dead, by the way, though his delicious pasta sauce lives on.

"Rare auld mountain dew" was released on The Dubliners` "25 years celebration" in 1987, both on LP and CD.

Just thought I'd bump this in case newer members weren't aware of the links. From the test pressing of the box set, all still active and worth downloading, believe me.
