Thanks for the link. Interesting discussion. I had no idea that there was still a group of people out there that consider The Pogues' music to be an abortion (OK, nobody in that thread said this, but they were just itching to do so).

Apparently Spider never did bother to progress from beer tray to tin whistle! ANd Shane doesnt put his finger in his ear ! I know its not Traditional as Irish Irish but if it wasnt for the Pogues I for one probably would never have been into the Trad stuff and there definitly wouldnt have been any Dropkick Molly etc. And as for " Shanes backing band not being able to play""! LOL Well


I am gonna join that session . wotsit now to put my ten pence worth in.
I could never understand that website anyway. I would used to be looking for tabs and get directed there ands end up going round in circlels clicking the song name. I dont think there actually are any tabs there are there?

Oh dear, I'm afraid I didn't get much into that "debate" before abandoning it as unworthy. For those less erudite than DZM, it was Noel Hill who first called the Pogues' music "an abortion", a fact he has never been allowed to forget and may yet appear on his tombstone. Noel's, not DZM's. We responded by dedicating one of Jem's most Mickey Mouse tunes to him. We called it "Planxty Noel Hill" to ensure both Hill's immortality and our own preeminence as art terrorists. It kinda worked.
