This is a question that is probably best to be answered by Mr. Chevron or other members of the band.
I am a film student from Sweden, and I'm wondering if it is possible to get permission (without paying huge amounts of money) to use any Pogues songs in a short film, that may or may not enter film festivals (most probably only Scandinavian ones)? I looked around at the FAQ and other threads but I did not find any answers for this. I know that some bands/artists let film students use their music in films (Sigúr roos for example), and therefore I'm wondering what The Pogues' policy on this is?
Thank you//Daniel
We don't have a set policy, but we tend to take a fairly relaxed view as long as all the formalities are observed between the filmmaker and our publishers. If you contact any of the publishing companies who administer our songs: Perfect Songs Ltd, Universal Music Ltd, Wardlaw Banks Ltd. (See individual CDs for details of who wrote what and who publishes what) and mention your circumstances, the publisher may take an understanding view of your financial circumstances, perhaps requesting a payment later and only if your film ever gains any significant commercial success. If you were hoping to use actual Pogues recordings, you must seek permission from our record company, Warner Music UK Ltd, with a similar overview. Ultimately though, we do not own many of our masters (we do own the songs) and cannot be held responsible either way for a record company decision.
