While in London, where to find Boxed Set?

Post Sun Jul 20, 2008 11:04 pm

Yeah, so, the gf is going to be in London (and Paris) of all places at the end of July and into August for a week. Can ya fuckin' believe it? It's been a lifelong dream so far to visit England (at al) and here she gets to go before me dammit!!

Anyway, where is a good place to pick up the box set in person?

And then Phil will meet up with her for coffee and tales and to sign said box set. What do ya say Phil? :)

Ok yesterday from Camden market picked up the boxset brand new & sealed, wait for it...for £25!!!
I cannot even recall what stall it was but the girl says they replace them every time they sell one. It was at the Camden end of the market towards the back, stall mainly sells CD's and the box sets are right at the far end!!!!

I've searched for Camden Market on google maps, and I keep getting two different things. Camden something or other near the train station, and Camden Canal market @ Camden High Street.

Which is which? :)

At £25, there is no way the ordinary margins of profit are being recognised here and so these Box Sets are either knocked off or they are reproductions (pirate copies). I can't tell anyone not to purchase something that "fell off the back of a lorry", but I feel obliged to at least let you know that the Pogues will not be making a cent from their music on these items. That's the good news. The bad news is they may be shoddily produced pirate copies, inferior in quality and fidelity. So, caveat emptor and all that.

I think maybe you missed this part Phil? ;)

Perhaps there is somewhere else that has the authentic boxed set? I have no problem buying the real thing so that it ensures The Pogues aren't left starving.

I too wouldnt have purchased something in the belief that the group wouldnt make any money from it!
Have purchased every available Pogues item I can over the years, just thought the Camden offer was too good to be missed (had bought one for £45 last month)!

Yes, you've paid your Pogues tax, you may go about your business guilt-free. To be honest, I'm almost more concerned that if the pirates are issuing shoddy reproductions, all the loving hard work of myself and Nick Robbins in the areas of restoration and remastering may count for nothing, and the unsuspecting buyer would never know. Just shop carefully, that's all.

Certainly well said. I have no intention of sending the gf to buy a shoddy reproduction. the point is to have the real thing just to have the real thing.

The girlfriend arrived back in London yesturday from Paris.

She loved Paris, but it was very hot and humid she says. I got no other details though.

She's very excited to be in London too. She's staying at Palmers Lodge and has found a couple used vinyl record stores, somewhere.

I'll be pickeing her up at the airport Saturday. Can't wait 'cause I miss her lots.

Well Jennifer made it home safe and sound this afternoon. Pretty soon w'll be looking at the pics. Wish me luck! heheh

The bad news is she didn't find the boxed set anyway. I guess the good news is that she didn't find any pirated copies either.
