Something like that, though they would of course be Pharaoh Saunders' lyrics, not Shane's.

Damn! I was going to be totally pedantic and say something like "You mean Shane's vocal of the Pharaoh's lyrics?" Then I wimped out.

Donegal express lyrics anybody?? I know the popes version, aint got a clue were to start with the pogues version? Cheers.

Strangely, I was listening to it yesterday and thinking that the lyrics are different from Shane's version with the Popes. They start off the same, but don't stay that way for long. Needs some more careful listening to. And the box set version, as I'm listening to it on itunes, almost sounds as if it's been "blanked" in places, with a few words missing especially in the chorus... though that would be weird if it's true.

"I might have ***** your missus, but I never ***** your daughter"? If this is the bit you mean, it is sung, and therefore reproduced, as written. Shane wrote the presumed "censorship" into the song, though I couldn't say how much of that survives into his solo recording.

Do you know if the lyrics to Dark Streets wasn´t complete when demo was recorded? I´ve heard the "la la la" line in the second verse on an early bootleg as well. I thought Shane forgot the words live but on the demo it sounds like the words were not written.

It has always been my impression that the lyrics were not yet complete.

Yes, that's the bit I was referring to. Thanks for the background... and yes, it somehow does seem more creatively profane. And I think it sounds as if Shane sings "Kahaya! You ****!" most times too. Except maybe the first time it sounds like it could be "Kahaya! You liar!"...?
