I agree with that. I think both the "Boat Train" and "Night Train to Lorca" demo versions are better than the final ones that made it on the CD.

Try this for Last of Mcgee lyrics:
There was Pearse and McGee, and Brown made three,in chains they crossed the sea,
In Australia they stood, and as bold comrades would, they made their own plans to leave,
To the bush they'd go, cross the hills they'd roam, with the birds and trees,
Farewell to the cap, the irons and the lash, to a lifetime of misery

The days passed by 'neath the tropical sky, their thirst and their hunger grew,
And as night fell in that empty hell they knew they would they would need a brew.
Pearse took the axe and with mighty hacks, he beat his old friend gone,
And on the hard dry ground, the two sat down to bite off the last of Brown.

(musical interlude - this is where it gets sketchy)

The ship shone bright in the middle of the night, The people could faces see
The two bob knew that sometime soon they would sit down and long for a meal,
As the sun rose Pearse began to toss, no more he'd ever see,
Shot him round the head, to death he bled and then there was only Mcgee

Alone and lost, the voices of ghosts, rang inside his head,
Tormented and dazed, his ashen eyes blazed, he wished he was long time dead,
Hung a belt around his neck, to hang from and old gum tree,
And as he hanged, the boars cames down to finish the last of mcgee.

Worth a shot :)

World goes down and I'm on my knees

[???] and I'm still in your dreams

Chorus:
And I love to see you come by
Watch the world make you smile.
I love to see you come my way
Yes, I love to see you come by
Want the world to make you smile
I love to hear you call my name

The sun went down and the moon shone cold
Shedding light on a dead man's [???]
The city was asleeping and the carnival began
They shouldn't wear the judges' robes [???]

2x Chorus

My love you wear your clothes so bare [or "fair"?]
Rings on your fingers and silver in your hair
And all you were was a dream I had
My imagination stopped me feeling sad... [chorus etc.]

[Re-edited a couple of times! And great work again, Alex!]

I think it's not "the sight of it", but "the sign of it".

I'm not sure about "silent enemies at ...", but I don't understand it either.

An I think, then it's: "When all my pain is, I'm still in your dreams."

"My love you wear your clothes so bare" - I think this is right.

I have heard this song 2 days ago the first time and I really love it!

i guess pretty much all the fony demos.

Here's the best I can figure for the first Fairytale demo. Btw Cait's voice is so pretty here that I wish there was a completed (or at least closer to complete) version from this session.
---------------------------------------------

it was christmas eve, babe, in the drunk tank
an old man said to me
don't think I'll see another one
the dead stay dead they say
the blind will never see
the lame don't walk
but babe
there's nothing you and me can't do
nothing...

it's '41...?

it was a white christmas eve on the west coast of clare
I looked 'cross the ocean, asked what's over there
relying on some kid they've got rivers of gold, and cars big as bars in the tale we've been told

it's a story that happened in new york long ago
Father Jack and me went there, it was covered with snow
said prayers in times square with some cops that we knew
then we drank tom and jerrys with the boys in blue
and the nypd choir were singing galway bay
and the bells were ringing out for christmas day

uh ssst..
frankie...and his girl maryann
and ran off together and a savin???
frankie got in with the booze running boys
and he met on jack diamond and ball boys maroon???
father was….????

happy christmas, i love you baby
that's what the note read
a dream of yesterday.
had to pawn the ring
to get back home again
the cold wind in the bay
brings ghosts from far away.

and what a fancy song…

So with your corrections and my best guesses, here's another stab at "Call my name"
--------------------------------------------------
World goes down and I'm on my knees
The sign of it holds no release
Silent enemies at the dark side gates
For all my pain and I'm still in your dreams

Chorus:
And I love to see you come by
Watch the world make you smile.
I love to see you come my way
Yes, I love to see you come by
Want the world to make you smile
I love to hear you call my name

The sun went down and the moon shone cold
Shedding light on a dead man's boat (pole?)
The city was a sleeping and the carnival began
They shouldn't wear the judges' robes

2x Chorus

My love you wear your clothes so bare
Rings on your fingers and silver in your hair
And all you were was a dream I had
My imagination stopped me feeling sad...

'Cause I love to see you come by
Watch the world make you smile.
I love to see you come my way
Yes, I love to see you come by
Want the world to make you smile
I love to hear you call my name

Music wise I thought it was pretty dope ey...reminds me of The Passenger a bit... Also boat train demo version is better than the bloody CD version. maybe Macgowan didn't care or was pissed off at that stage... Anyways

Let's go driving, let's go driving through the city
Look at my face babe
Trying to flick through second street???
They can touch you, they can bring us to our knees
At the dogging of the looming street??

And I will touch you too
And what I say you'll do
Lets go driving through the city

The blind men are dancing in the dark
And lovers are kissing in the park (or the pub!)
And killers are hiding from the light
In dark streets, ?? through alley's to save time???

I give it all to you
And do what I tell you to
Lets go driving through the city

Need help!? - You know it's safe and warm
You're helpless, but I wont do you any harm!
I kissed you and you told me that you loved me
So trust me, only I can set you free

We'll kiss again my pet
I'll use you till you're dead
Then go driving through the city, go driving through the city

This song is weird. It makes me laugh. Here's the best I can figure for it:

Let's go driving, let's go driving through the city

Look at my face babe
Down on fifty second street
They can touch you, they can bring you to your knees
At the dark end of a lonely street

And I will touch you too
Though what I say you'll do
Let's go driving through the city

The blind men are dancing in the dark
And lovers are kissing in the park
And killers are hiding from the light
In dark streets and round in alleys all the time??
I'll give it all to you
You do what I tell you to
Let's go driving through the city

You're helpless - you know it's safe and warm
You're helpless, but I won't do you any harm
I kiss you and you tell me that you love me
So trust me, only I can set you free

We'll kiss again my pet
I'll use you till you're dead
Then go driving through the city, go driving through the city

This is another weird song. A very sweet weird song.

-------------------------------------------
Now I'd like to tell you what your smile was for
And I loved you from the moment that you walked through that door
And I knew that I've been with you before
In some other time
Some other place
Some other time
Some other place

Well I'd like to tell you about your pretty face
And you know that you're a gift to the human race
I'm happy when there's a smile on your face
Reminds me of
Some other time
Some other place
Some other time
Some other place
Some other time
Some other place
Some other time
Some other place

When I look in outer space for you
And the sky turns purple and the moon is blue
Then I know that I've been with you before
In some other time
Some other place
Some other time
Some other place
Some other time
Some other place
Some other time
Some other place

Some other place
Some other time
Some other place
Some other time
Some other place

Nicaragua Libré

Post Wed Jul 17, 2013 1:13 am

A stab at Nicaragua Libré:

When you cross the border you become Nicaraguan
These people with nothing 'cause they're shackles away
They've endured all God's hardships and all man's oppression
The brave Nicaraguans will still win the day.

There's a storm in the mountains where children are dying
America's trying to fight the war she can't win
The contras are lackeys of men with no scruples
United through company and among ?------

So walk tall, Nicaragua, walk proudly and prosper
May your hearts never wither, may you ?---- away

Viva Nicaragua, Viva Nicaragua suez?
Viva Nicaragua, Nicaragua Libre

God's curse on you Reagan, you cruel-hearted monster
History shall judge you and history shall weep
If you harm Nicaragua from now till forever
Till Hell freezes over may you never know sleep

And walk tall, Nicaragua, walk proudly and prosper
May your field never wither where you toil away

Viva Nicaragua, Villos? Nicaraguan suez?
Viva Nicaragua, Nicaragua Libre

Sound of the City Night

Post Sun Jul 21, 2013 8:07 pm

Here's my best stab at Sound of the City Night

Midnight's bell in the distance tolls
Down the line a whistle blows
Headlights shine through the window pane
Listen to the tires hissing in the rain
Radio plays, the guitar strums
And the city's heart, night's engine hums
Everyday they turn off the light,
Listen to the sound of the city night
There's a million dreams on the city streets
And every dream has a heart beat.

Don't be afraid
Don't be afraid
Don't be afraid

As the night's cold needle slips
Through twilight's dusky seams
And the sounds of the city night

The sounds of the city night

The sounds of the city night

Echo through our dreams

The still of night away so far
On city streets beneath unknown stars

And right beyond all that I can see
Some silly moon shining down on you and me
A photograph, a memory
A picture that I hold with me
A twilight slips a crimson scale
I see your face, your eyes aflame
I hear your voice so far away
And close to me I hear you say

Don't be afraid
Don't be afraid

Don't be afraid

As the embers of the dying sun scorch your raven hair

Night lets fall a starry show
Night lets fall a starry show

Night lets fall a starry show

Across your shoulders bare

Good job! Many improvements here on my attempt from a few years ago. Some comments:

"Found a jack in me window" should be "Father Jack and me went there"

"the booze and his boys" should be "the booze running boys"

I think they "said prayers" not "set fires" in Times Square.. It fits with the fact that he is with Father Jack

Your line "It's 41" still sounds vaguely like "it's for the rich" to me

I'm not sure about the line "ton and gins??" but it sounds like he might be using "ton and ginics" as some weird slang for gin and tonics?
