I've got that VHS and it is one of my prized possessions - actually my Dad bought it over in Dublin and we watched it together when he came back. You're spot on about Mr Bourke, an absolute star and a genuine Bohemian rebel. Not a U2 fan and I find Bono's Luke tribute rings hollow, BUT think he repairs this with an heartfelt rendition of Springhil Mining Disaster.

The whole show has a real joy about it and the pride you can see in Shane standing up there singing with his heroes just electrifies the performance.

I saw The Dubliners at Sunderland Empire just after Ciaron Bourke died and Ronnie spoke very emotionally about their dear friend. Think Limerick Rake complete with the hacking cough at the start is a classic rendition reeking of drink and abandon.

Shocked i am, yes, shocked that ya'll havn't mentioned that Christy has also recorded Mr. Chevron's "Faithful Departed". And did a crackerjack of a job, i may add. I read in his book that Phillip booked Planxty at his high school or something when he was 15, that true, Phillip?

Yes, in 1973. It's the only story the old git has ever managed to remember about me.

He is mentioned in Boys From The County Hell of course:

But now Ive the most charming of verandahs
I sit and watch the junkies, the drunks, the pimps, the whores
Five green bottles sitting on the floor
I wish to christ, I wish to christ
That I had was Christy Moore

Hahaha. Like it.
