SOME QUESTIONS FOR PHILIP CHEVRON, ABOUT THE STORY OF FTONY

Post Mon Dec 31, 2007 8:36 pm

MR PHILIP CHEVRON

If you would be kind enough to answer a few questions for me it would be greatly appreciated. On the BBC's story of, fairytale of new york documentary. When you and the other's are practicing fairytale i can see you and terry woods with capo's on your instruments, on the second fret i think. Please could you tell me the reason for this?
Also does the mandolin follow the piano because i've found the sheet music for it and wondering if it's worth converting to mandolin tab?
As it seem's i'm the only one who want's to buy a mandolin tab book for the pogues song's, as you were the only one who replyed to my last request.
I have the best of book on order, at least i can find out who publishes it and how i can contacted them.

Thank's Greg

I can't speak for Terry, but I use a capo on the second fret because, for "Fairytale" (and a few others too) I just prefer Key of "C" chord shapes than the Key of "D" shapes one would ordinarily use. The C, Am, F and G shapes just sound rounder and fuller to me than the alternatives in D.

By mandolin, do you mean the mandolin James plays on "the Boys from the NYPD choir etc........." or Terry's cittern throughout? If the former, the mandolin almost certainly sticks with the piano/guitar chords. If you mean the latter, Terry has a sort of lead/rhythm style which only acknowledges chords in passing.
