Straight to Hell

How many of your have actually seen this movie, because it is a rather hard-to-find DVD. I have to say that it is a guilty pleasure of mine. I'm really not a big fan of Alex Cox's movies. I always thought Repo Man was overrated, Sid and Nancy, while Gary Oldman was absolutely stellar as Sid Vicious, the Sex Pistols history was totally inaccurate to the point where it was almost an insult. But, I thought Straight to Hell, while flawed was actually quite entertaining. Spider had a natural screen prescence, while Shane had a few classic line (the best being "Strangers Frank," and "I'll check the petrol statio," right before he gets shot by Joe Strummer) In a weird way Straight to Hell seemed like a precursor to Reservoir Dogs. Anyway, rambling along, Straight to Hell is an underrated Spaghetti western fiasco.

Iain

p.s. Philip why did your character hesitate when trying to kill Willy, I thought the way you went out was just wrong

Yes it was very wrong. But you see, my character Ed MacMahon was secretly in love with Willy and that's why he says "I....I can't do it......Willy.....go on, get outta here!" Such sentimentality is swiftly punished by the uncaring Willy.

But you had to know the subtle subtext to get this, and the subtle subtext was, alas, sprawled all over the cutting room floor.

I wish someone would have shot Courtney Love within the first five minutes.

I wish someone would shoot Courtney Love now.

I know I probably just beat about 500 people to that punch.

She was every bit as irritating as her character. I do think her survival to the end of the picture may have been one of Alex Cox's more exquisite little cruelties.

I have to be LITERALLY a half bottle deep into the night to even THINK about listening to her speak.

Just got Straight to Hell off amazon a few days ago.

Courtney Love is quite annoying, but at least she's miserable the whole way through.

Best parts:

Joe Strummer combing his hair with a knife dipped in gasoline
The firefight
That one part with the lounge singer

Worst parts:

Courtney Love talking
Having no idea who the one with the Artful Dodger accent is

I loved Jem Finer's comments about Ms. Love in Carol Clerk's book. Her best part in the movie is when she goes over the cliff in the car and is insinerated. Classic. NORWOOD!!!!, cringe

I still to this day can't fathom how Kurt Cobain put up with her bullshit. Heroin is truly a dangerous drug, it makes you do things horrible things like marry Courtney Love. YIKES!!

Not really, no. Granted I have been her only a few days, but I caught that sense pretty quick in this thread. Granted she is annoying, and her music is mediocre at best, and I really wish she would go away...
