I'm gonna say either "Alison," "Watching the Detectives," or maybe "Everyday I Write the Book."

Like to hear them do a version of 'The Rising of the Moon' and 'The Parting Glass'.

Yeah two great songs Shane could put his own stamp on and the band would give an edgier sound to. They dont come more traditional than these two. Thanks

The Parting Glass (1985 studio recording) is on the remastered/expanded Rum Sodomy and The Lash and The Parting Glass/Lord Santry's Fairest Daughter (live at Brixton 2001) is on the Straight In The Eye box set.

Am I imagining that the Pogues ever recorded, "Fields Of Athenry"?

If I were to pick a non trad tune, I'd like to hear an attempt of Theatre Of Hate's 'Westworld', in the style of Wildcats or maybe something by Woody Guthrie.
I wish I'd done biology for an urge within me wanted to do it then

Whatever imagining you may have had of The Pogues doing "The Fields", please put it from your mind, I beseech you. It will not be happening in this space-time continuum. However, we do hear tell that Pete St John has a new song he wants us to hear..............

I used to be a singer in a band and we regularly got requests to play 'The Fields'. I used to just refuse point-blank to sing it. It's a truly awful song.

That would be a 'We Didn't Do It', then Philip?

The Dropkick Murphys manage to do the song justice, they have quite a tidy range of covers/ trad arrs under their belt.

However before I heard the DKM's version I had the misfortune to stumble on an Aussie Irish Band - The Tullamore Tree (there are 3 of them in the band) whose version of FOA was so bad (as were their other tunes) I almost considered becoming a Goth again

'Fields' is a great song! As a London Irish rugby supporter I'll defend it to the end.

If they haven't done it, and I don't think they have "Grace" would be awesome. I can't imagine anyone singing it better than Shane.

I'm not at all sure "Grace" is trad. Isn't it a contemporary song about Grace Plunkett, née Gifford, who married the poet and 1916 leader Joseph Mary Plunkett at Kilmainham Gaol the night before his execution?

the song is beautiful...

"...a popular Republican song, "Grace", written by Frank and Sean O'Meara in 1985."
