If The Pogues were going to make a new album which, like their earlier albums, was to feature a mixture of traditional and original material, what trad songs would you like to hear on it?

Assuming it's traditional, Donegal Danny.

Although it's not a traditional number, I'd really love to hear them do The Lonesome Boatman as it's one of my favourite tunes ever.

Do you mean trad in a traditional sense, or trad in a Pogues sense?

Hot Asphalt, Streets of New York or The Field Behind The Plough would be nice

I don't know The Field Behind the Plough. There is a demo version of Hot Asphalt which has been wandering around the internet for years now (PM me for more details) with Spider on vocals* - it could turn up on the box set, as for the other one - I certainly would not like to hear The Pogues play the Streets Of New York because I hate the song for many, many reasons.

*Spider swore blind that it was Terry singing on the demo version and not him. I am not convinced though and I still maintain that's it's Spider singing. I also played it to one of Terry's daughters and she says it's not Terry singing

Hot Asphalt is a Ewan MacColl song. Spider sings it on our recording.
