Favourite version of FTONY?

Anyone herd the demo version with Cait singing. Ive herd a small clip from i think a documentary. Its sound raw and cool.

But i think the one with Kirsty is a so damn good.

I do really like Christy Moore's version on the Live At The Point album. Great intro to it as well.

Naturally nothing beats the IISFFGWG version though.

As for the Cait version, well personally I'm hoping to get the opportunity to hear that sometime next March...

Kirsty MacColl only ever knew the original too. I learned this a few days before she died when I asked her what she thought of Ronan's then just-released version. Fr. McGreer's girls got to be up there! I only just saw that and it's wonderful - congrats to you on these two talents.

Besides that, the original beats even the Brixton ones for me (Ella is perfect I think) and that's saying a lot. Nobody has yet mentioned having actually been to see a live version with Kirsty, wish I had done that.

I nearly died when I heard the German one.

I saw The Pogues and Kirsty sing out FTONY in the summer of 1995(?) They were closing act of the Heineken Festival in Roundhay Park. The best "free lunch" I've ever had and possibly one of the most emotional moments of my life. I'm so glad to of being able to hear Kirsty sing live on, sadly, too few occasions. of course, today is the seventh anniversary of her so sad death.

what does shane think of the other versions?

As he said in the docu in 2005 he liked both Ronan Keating's version and Christy's but the best version he'd heard was when people sing it in bars!
