Joe Strummer and Shane

Post Sun Dec 02, 2007 12:35 am

It's well-documented that Shane was a pre-Pogues/NIPS fan of the Clash.....

-- photographed front row at their show , etc. -

fastward----

you got Joe at town & Country, Straight to Hell, Hells Ditch, replacing Shane, ect., ----

yet, early Shane famously photographed at Clash gigs never seems to be mentioned in any proper Pogues writings.

Why is that?

Shane use to go see Joe play - before Shane was "famous"

I'm curious if/how that ever entered into the dynamtics of their relationship.

I mean, you always hear how Joe was such a Pogues fan.

Fair enough.

But, long before Joe was a Pogues fan, Shane was a Joe fan.

Was Shane intimidated, inspired, embarrassed, competitive, inappeasable, etc? during Hell's Ditch????

I think I have a T-shirt like that somewhere. Unfortunately, the fabric is too hard and scratchy to wear, so maybe, if I find it, I'll hang it up on my studio wall.
