Bonus tracks on Red Roses and Hell's Ditch

Post Mon Nov 12, 2007 5:22 pm

Why does the CD of Red Roses have two songs produced by Elvis Costello? Isn't that out of sequence?

Hell's Ditch has a Rainy Night in Soho produced by Steve Lillywhite. What's the story there? There was the original produced by Dave Jordan (because Costello ran off) and then another single version with more horns. And now the Lillywhite version has more whistle. To add to the puzzlement, it's on the Hell's Ditch CD which was produced by Strummer.

Did they shift the bonus tracks from one CD to another to make them come out even, sacrificing accuracy in the timeline?

Reissues were compiled in chronological order, not on producers basis.

These two tracks were recorded and published before Rum was out thus they made onto Red Roses CD as bonus, joining another four b-sides from the same era - 1984-early 1985.

Reissued Rum is actually Rum + Poguetry + 2 b-sides from single that originally followed publication of Rum (late 1985 - early 1986 period).

So called remix version of Rainy Night on reissued Hell's Ditch was published in 1991...

There is a great <strike>FUCk</strike> FAQ ! Bother to look there for more info on Rainy Night's versions
