Why did the Pogues do Haunted (on Sid and Nancy with Cait singing) and then Shane did it again on his own album?

I've always chalked that up to

1) Shane wanting to do a duet with Sinead O'Connor
2) Not having much songwriting inspiration around 1994
3) Haunted having been written with a woman's voice in mind

I don't think the re-recording shows an overall affection for that song, just that the majority of people wouldn't have heard it. I know it cracked US radio, but it was just on the soundtrack of what was, at the end of the day, an unsuccessful film. It would appear new to most people. I like the song, Sinead's great as always.

I've always preferred The Pogues version of this song to that of the duet with Shane and Sinead (however, I still love this version as well.) Cait's vocals are lovely and it's still a shame that she left the band, I would have been quite curious to hear her sing of Fairytale of New York.

Cait could hold a note in fairness to her.

Agreed. 'tis a beautiful version of the song. I played it quite a bit on my college radio station back in the day...

Absolutely, Johan. It was really good to see and hear. Very special moments in a great gig. 8)

I know that she preformed with the band in 2004, singing Fairytale of New York and I'm a Man You Don't Meet Everyday. I was wondering how different of an impact Fairytale of New York, would have if they recorded the song with Cait on vocals, instead of Kristy.

She has a unique and different style to singing the song, she sounds more mellow.

Would have been interesting if they played Haunted with her on Vocals or as a duet with Shane.

It was a treat to hear Cait sing it in 2004. But nobody could sing it like Kirsty.

Agreed. She was the original. Once you like the original of anything its rare to hear it done better.

True. Unless Johnny Cash gets his hands on it.

Absolutely amazing version -- I never tire of listening to it.

Robert Wyatt's version of Shipbuilding was better than the Elvis Costello one imo.
