Nice! If that is the case, can I join the band?
“An’ this is the last of Brummy,” he said, leaning on his spade and looking away over the tops of the ragged gums on the distant range.

This might be something for you? Looks very skatepunk and im pretty sure Tom McManamon of The Popes use one so they can't be all bad.

Electric Banjos

Post Wed Jan 26, 2005 12:05 pm

ST, I have never used an electric banjo. Jem uses one on stage, but I doubt he ever recorded with it, preferring the sound of the acoustic one.

The only real reason for using an electric banjo - unless you actually like the sound specifically - is feedback. When you put pick ups on acoustic instruments and then add in electric bass, clattering drums, onstage monitor wedges etc, it can be a total nightmare for the sound man, as everything fights to be heard while simultaneously "bleeding" into everyone ELSE's pickups.

After years of experiment with Paul Scully, who has been our front of house sound man since 1984, we concluded that wherever possible, self-contained electric instruments were the least bad option. That is why Jem uses an elecrtric banjo, Terry uses electric cittern and mandolin, and I, until recently, used a Godin, which is an electrified acoustic, though it looks like a Telecaster. This last tour I rebelled and used an actual Martin Dreadnought Acoustic with a pickup. But Scully insisted I use an anti-feedback rubber guard over the sound hole all the same.

It's ok to sit around watching Beavis & Butthead for a while. You're only in the danger zone when you're watching Spinal Tap and you realise that none of these things have happened to yet. At that point, you should figure out some songs.

By the way,
I have a tenor banjo I tune to GDAE (or EADG if you are oldschool) but the strings are all loose and the g-string gets out of tune if i press it too hard.
So, yeah.. I want to hear what kind of strings you guys use for this tuning and if you know a good online store to get them (preferable in the EU). There are not much of strings to choose by when it comes to Tenor banjo strings in this country
