She also sings backing vocals on the Barrowlands 1987 live recordings, including "Dirty Old Town", scotching the myth that she never performed her father's work.

Wasn't she singin' it also on the live at the town & country?
Then they'll take you to Cloughprior
Shove you in the ground
But you'll stick your head back out and shout
"Let's have another round!"

Well yes, the Town and Country shows were just a few weeks after Barrowlands, so part of the same tour.

It seems the only people in the U.S. to get this on or around the release date were those that lived near big stone and mortar stones. I live out in the wilds of Michigan, nowhere near a record store, so I always have to do the online route. Anyway, I got an email from Amazon today saying the box set was shipped, so anyone in the U.S> that hasn't been able to find it up until now should be able to get it there!

Well there's some good news. I ordered from Barnes and Noble because it was $38 and some odd cents with free shipping, so I never cancelled and went elsewhere due to the great price. It does suck however listening to how great the set is and having to wait for it. I feel and share your pain.

B&N did however adjust their release date from July 17th to July 1st, so hopefully the wait is almost over.

Beautiful performance of Goodnight Irene. As far as contemporary covers of that song go, I'd go so far as to say it's much better than Tom Waits' version. And Kirsty was such a great counterpoint to Shane's grittiness. Her harmonization on this song and on the Town & Country performances totally change the flavor of some Pogues numbers, for the better in my opinion.

Is Goodnight Irene on the Box set?? Cant see it on the track listings anywhere??

It's a "hidden track" at the end of disc 5. 8)

Well, it would have been hidden had Mr Rhino not credited the track, including its status as "hidden", prominently within the booklet that goes with the Box Set.

Yes, the heartburn continues. It seems even Borders wasn't able to order the box set either, it is currently unavailable in their warehouse. However, on July 1st the box set is supposed to be readily available, so I might just go for broke and order it from Planet Music.

Hi Phil,
Is there any reason "Heart Shaped Glasses" is not on collection. It was always one of my bootlegged favorites.

Is "Goodnight Irene," a live song? I knew the Pogues have played it live, correct me if I'm wrong doesn't Spider sing lead vocals?

Dealing with record labels would make my hair fall out. I don't know how you do it.

Then again, I guess I'm a hypocrite since I made such a big deal about the song myself, but c'est la vie.

Yes, I think there was a reason, but I'm damned if I can remember it now.

We only ever did it live and for a brief period, when the show included Kirsty MacColl, Joe Strummer, Lynval Golding, After Tonite, Mary Coughlan, Steve Earle etc etc........and we felt it needed a "Finale", but don't ask me who sang. Everybody, would be my guess. The recording on the box set is the only full-length version we could trace but, as it is of abysmal sound quality, we did not want to "officially" list it as part of the Box.
