I was too informed by Planet Music that the box set will be released through them on July 1st for around $60.00. However, I'm a bit sketchy about them as they didn't even carry the remastered Pogues CDs (Red Roses For Me through Pogue Mahone) that were released in 2004. I might end up just sticky with Borders. The journey continues my fellow Medusans, but there is still light at the end of the tunnel.

Well, what can I say that hasn´t been said before about the box! I absolutely love it. It´s so well done, the tracks , the booklet, everything top class :D :D :D The sound quality of most tracks is amazing so I wonder what was left out because of not enough good quality. I guess there´s still a treasure chest full of interesting stuff that we´ll probably never hear

Can´t really pick a favourite track but maybe The Last Of McGee that I think should have made it to Hell´s Ditch. An album that could have been completely different if you look at all the outtakes on the box

Many thanks to all who made to box :D

For anyone who lives in North Central New Jersey who doesn't want to deal with mail, a local record store I visit alot, Vintage Vinyl on Rt. 1 in Edison has alot of copies of the box set at $79.95.

I might have paid the extra and bought it there if Amazon.uk didn't already ship mine.

Yes, you got to love those underground record stores (a lovely treasure trove they truly are.) The two local record stores that I frequent in Virginia (Skinnie's Records in Norfolk and Fantasy Records in Newport News,) have unfortunately not received the box set quite yet, considering I have found many rare import Cds from a lot of my favorite artists at both of these establishments. Ironic enough the owner of Fantasy is a huge Pogues fan, and he didn't even know that The Pogues were releasing a box set, I was the one that informed him.

Yeah, i got the same delay message from Amazon.ca. Oh well, so instead of taking it with me for my July away, it'll be waiting when i return. I am going to show great patience and NOT re-order from somebody else... besides, i've been meaning to spend more quality time with that Clash singles box set i got over the winter...

It's like Christmas in June! I finally got my hands on the box set and had a listen.

Philip, I wanted to thank you for all the hard work you put into this...brilliant!

Oh man, I've been listening to this thing so much over the week.

Beautiful performance of Goodnight Irene. As far as contemporary covers of that song go, I'd go so far as to say it's much better than Tom Waits' version. And Kirsty was such a great counterpoint to Shane's grittiness. Her harmonization on this song and on the Town & Country performances totally change the flavor of some Pogues numbers, for the better in my opinion.

By the way, is that Kirsty backing on the extended mix of If I Should Fall From Grace With God?

Yes it´s Kirsty and I agree with you, her backing vocals on some of the Pogues songs were amazing.

She also sings backing vocals on the Barrowlands 1987 live recordings, including "Dirty Old Town", scotching the myth that she never performed her father's work.

my "official" debut:

fist of all:
thanks to all of you, the Pogues, for after 25 years of work, which were really just 18 years because, Joe Strummer aside(may he rest in punk rock heaven), The Pogues would'n't be The Pogues without Shane. Neverthless - thanks for all the memories you gave someone who was just born a year before "Rum, Sodomy and the Lash". This box-set is my holy grail, it always will be - and I thank you for that!
