Mr Chevron, I'm sure you're sick of answering questions about the box set, but if you have the time and the inclination:

Did you ever establish if the version of 'Wild Cats' on the Sally Mac cassette single is a different mix to the album, and if so might it be included on the box?

Apart from the live tracks already mentioned, did any of your wonderful live covers - Japan, White Light/White Heat, Darklands etc. - make the cut?

Cheers!

I see a new Playstation 3 game here: Beertrau Hero 3 :D

Haha, good one.. Have you seen this one? http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=a7JCrbRr54w I thought it was funny. My GH playing friend did not..

Mr C, How about a vinyl set? probably not going to happen is it? Would be great though..

Well, you never say never with the Brothers Warner or, increasingly, with Mr Rhino. It was Mr Rhino's idea to do the recent vinyl versions of a couple of the early albums {<<<<<< patently not remembering which ones}, but a 10-LP set might be asking a bit much.

No I didn't establish anything about "Wild Cats" but I do know for certain that the difference in the mixes was fairly minimal, so it was never a likely candidate for the box set. By this yardstick, we could have had potentially dozens of "Irish Rovers" (nobody knows for sure how many mixes there were and, of those, how many were used) so, rather than risk a brain seizure on top of everything else, I took the decision to just ignore the "Irish Rover".

We were never able to find better versions of our slightly-off-the-wall covers than already existed on bootlegs. But "Japan" made it by special request of the Janitor, though I doubt the quality is substantially better than his ole MP3. Pharoah Sanders is playing in Dublin week after next, I think.

This has given me a renewed hope for the world. Suddenly the sun is rising. It's morning again. All that remains is for you to tell me that "Straight to Hell" with Joe Strummer also made the cut. Then my pastoral image of a New, Better World will include fluffy bunnies and unicorns.

My thanks to the Janitor then! I love the song.

And big thanks to you - it´s a great idea to do such a set of unreleased stuff, if more bands were like that, people would be much happier I think :-)

No, that'll have to wait for The Pogues featuring Joe Strummer, London 1991, live album. And no, folks, I DON'T have even a vague release date for it. Sales will be made exclusively to those of you who did not insult the great man by yelling "SHA-ANE" when he was singing his fragile heart out to you as, really, why would any of you want such an album in the first place?

Well poop. My New, Better World will have to survive without those bunnies and unicorns for a while. Whatever will we eat?

I'm looking forward to this rumored Live mit Joe Strummer release though (of course this takes nothing away from how much I'm looking forward to the box set). Once it exists I anticipate yelling at the speakers "The Pogues AND Joe Strummer?! Fuck yeah!" and, of course, feasting on bunnies shiskabobbed on unicorn horn.

I'm chuffed that Japan made it. That was something I inquired about some time ago (albeit in a slightly different context). Great news!

Just read the new Uncut, the box is regarded as one of the 25 most important upcoming releases of 2008.
So long and thanks for the fish

Great news Mr Chevron, especially as my only copy of Japan (which I love) decided to cut about a minute out of the middle of itself last time I copied it (always check your new CD-Rs have copied properly before you throw your old ones away, kids!).

And as ever, thanks a million for taking the time to respond - no more questions from me, I'm just gonna sit back and wait for that darn box!

Those were strange days indeed. I was in the bar at the Aston Villa Leisure Centre (praise God for The Academy) when a full scale bar brawl broke out before the show. it was between Pogues and Clash fans concerned about who's band was the "hardest". Quaint or what?

Gawd, I remember that gig! I'd forgotten all about the ruck in the bar. I just remember trying to dissuade my usually mild-mannered brother from twatting some guy who'd spilled his pint . . .

AVLC was, um, an acquired taste. I remember seeing a double bill of Pulp and Blur there. Jarvis and his lads (and lass) blew Damon and Co off the stage.

I was actually listening to a Strummer bootleg a couple days ago, and I remember after Gartloney Rats, a bunch of stupid fucks start shouting "We want Shane!" over and over again (before, based on the sudden disappearance of their voices after a strong-voiced "excuse me," being rightfully shushed by security). It astounds me that you would buy tickets to a gig on the pretense of doing so to enjoy great music, only to drag down the performers by demanding the impossible. It's such amazingly bad form. Naturally, the same stupid fucks would later go on to shout such genius ideas as "Get on the wagon, Shane!"

Naturally, Joe kicked into a great performance of London Calling immediately thereafter anyway, making no acknowledgment of them. Such a talent.
