The way how Pogues' songs are regoistered?

Post Fri Sep 21, 2007 12:22 am

can someone put more loight on the way that Pogues regoistered songs in terms of beein' copyroight carriers..
oif oi recall well, oi've heard Shane at some documentary sayin' that hes the complete author of Pogues' work, in terms of both lyroics & musoic, so before publoishin' albums, does it mean that Shaneo was regoistered as the only copyroight owner or other Pogues are regoistered too, all the names loisted as joint authors?

Every band or individual makes his own arrangements, there is no hard and fast rule and our financial and credit arrangements with each other have altered amd varied over the years, one of the reasons we keep them private. Generally, whatever Shane implies, our business with each other is very fair.

oi understand; it wasn't me ointention to ask about anythoing in terms of foinancial and soimilar arrangements but of the artoistic relations woithin' the band, lyroics is by .. and musoic is by..
oi ask thois cause oim not sure how all thois should work also for me own story.. oi mean has Shane kept all the roights of the songs he wrote(wrote in terms of lyroics) even oif he hasn't done the musoic all by hemself?
.. to make the question more soimple, for example on the following page:
http://www.pogues.com/Releases/Lyrics/L ... hould.html
it says copyright 1988 Shane MacGowan and not copyroight 1988 Pogues
that was me question really..

Ah, OK, I see. The copyright in the song remains Shane's. We all own the copyright in all our songs and usually license them out to a sub-publisher for a period of 3 to 7 years at a time.

but oim stoill confused a boit.. how is that all Pogues(Philip, James, Darryl, Spider and others) own the copyroight and also copyroight for the song remains just Shane's? Is it because he made the lyroics & all Pogues members doid the music? Thats what oi can't actually understand..

when song is beein' regoistered here, theres fields to name separately
songwroiter(s) & musicwroiters(s)

I think Philip has discussed this previously elsewhere, but if I recall correctly, there is a distinction to be made between composition credit and arrangement credit, or something like that.

All Pogues DON't own the copyright to the songs, only the individual writers (or groups of writers - MacGowan/Finer, Chevron/Hunt, Woods/Stacy etc) own the copyrights to the songs, though other Pogues may well share in, at the writer's discretion, some royalty arrangenment. Now go practice your guitsr.
