Pogues Reissues

Post Thu Jan 29, 2004 2:42 am

Just wanted to let you all know of the progress of the pogues cd re-releases which I just came across on the shanemacgowan.com forum, care of Mr Phillip Chevron.

Mr Chevron writes:

Irish Rover -

This year, all seven studio albums are being remastered in much-improved sound and will have a total of 35 extra tracks between them (basically, all our b sides, the "Poguetry" EP and non-album singles). They will have updated artwork featuring rare photos and new sleeve notes from people like Tom Waits, Steve Earle and Patrick McCabe. The presently available albums will all be deleted. Unfortunately, for technical reasons, we do not have exact release dates yet. I can only tell you that the work is in hand: myself, Darryl and Spider were at Warners Music in London last week to supervise the project.

The "Straight To Hell" soundtrack CD is a seperate project for another company, but it will contain about 8 Pogues tracks that were in the movie but not on the original soundtrack album in 1987.

Perhaps I could also mention that Chiswick Records will be issuing the two Radiators albums on CD this year - "TV Tube Heart" (1977) and "Ghostown" (1979). In the case of "TV Tube", this is its first appearance on CD outside of Japan.

Darryl and I are still working on the box set for 2005 release and yes, we still have the release of "Live In Brixton" (or whatever it will be called - any suggestions?) lined up.

My best regards

Thank you, Phillip Chevron!!!

For me, as a collector, I suppose this means I could go ahead and frame some albums as I'll be listening to the remastered versions. On the other hand, doesn't vinyl sound better? Can't wait to find out!!!

I have posted the list of B-sides that will be on the albums at my website http://www.pogues.tk. Sadly I don't have any release dates.

One of the English music monthlies (I can't remember which) says that the first five albums are re-released in October. It will be great to get tracks like Muirchin Durkin, Whiskey You're The Devil and Sketches Of Spain on CD.

Update!

Post Wed Sep 29, 2004 8:52 pm

Mr. Chevron has notified the Paddy Rolling Stone Forum that the reissues will be available in the UK on November 15th.......and that they will not be availble state side until sometime next year.....

Mr. Chevron writes:
"The remastered studio albums will be released November 15th.
The Live album is being mixed right now but please don't push me for a release date yet. "

".... only fair to warn you that we are aiming to release the albums next year in the USA, where most of them have not been available for years. You might want to wait for those editions. Hope to take a look at the video stuff next year too."

Anybody for imports!?!
