Sayonara

Anyone know what he's saying in those little asides between the chorus and the next verse?

I know it's probably "me love you long time" or something...

Which means? Sorry, I don't think I made myself clear in my original post...

I find myself wondering if 'Sayonara' is, in fact a true story about Shane getting the clap from a Thai hooker...

I'm aware of Shane's family background.

I also know that he has spent a lot of time in Thailand...

Humble question about the song Sayonara

Post Fri Jul 21, 2006 12:20 am

I was curious as to know, should anyone choose to acquiesce to my humble speculations as to whether or not the song Sayonara had any fleeting pinings or inspirations from the 1957 movie with Red Buttons and Marlon Brando of the same title. Thank you that song is amongst my personal favorites.

(p.m.s) it was Magical to be able to spend March 16th with you this past year THANK YOU!!!

I would equally speculate (i.e I don't know for sure) that the movie had little to do with the song. Which is not to say Shane would not have welcomed the happy coincidence.

R.I.P. mr. Red Buttons; feb 5 1919 - july 13 2006

i know there is a separate R.I.P. thread, but it seemed appropriate here...

She's laughing in her sleeve at me,
I can feel it in my bones

Sayonara Single Version

Post Tue Nov 13, 2007 8:35 am

I was wondering if the single version of Sayonara (with a clean lyric in place of an explicit one) and some different vocals and backing is available on CD at all at this time?

thanks

There´s a German only CD single with the single version. You sometimes see it on eBay but it´s often expensive. Or try gemm.com if you got a big wallet.

I have this single on one of my many Pogues rare singles and B-sides CDs. If I remember correctly the musical arrangement is the same. Some of the lyrics have been changed, the main line "some motherfucker kissed the ground," was originally "some holy father kissed the ground."
