Oh absolutely. In fact I'm pretty sure I would have said the same stuff on that thread too. I think that is what Philip meant when he refered to Gorundhog day.

But there will be many more.

P&L used to be one of my least favourite Pogues albums, but after listening to it on a few times in the car on the way to work my opinion of it has changed.

There are songs on it I now like a lot like Down All The Days and Cotton Fields, which I didn't like before, I now chose it above IISFFGWG for listening to particularly when driving, which is different from when I first bought it, I flipped from song to song looking for the good in the album but was never able to find it.

I think it's a great album.

Yes, Peace and Love does seem to a rather popular album to discuss. It seems to bring out the best and worse in people. However, as I said before I never intentionally intended for this thread to be about the album proper, just a frank discussion on which tracks you guys found to be the best. With that being said I think the issue of Peace and Love should be included in this years presidential debates, it seems everyone has their own opinion. It would be funny to hear which side of the fence the Democrats or the Republicans are on.

christy brown; down all the days

Phil-

Was it coincidental that the movie My Left Foot and "Down All the Days"/Peace and Love were realeased in the same year?

Was awaresness of the 2 projects or consideration of including this track in the film during recording/release?

Furthermore, is there any significance to 1989 being the year in which Christy Brown was celebrated in both film and song?

And, for the record, "White City" is just such a lovely track. I get quite emotional everytime I hear it sung, "like Atlantis, you just disappeared from view.".

There is just something very nostalgic, fragile, and temporary, hearing that, especially as an ex-New yorker in this post 9/11-era.

Phil Chevron- My family and I support and appreciate all that you are, have been, and will be.

Lorelei
Misty Morning
London You're A Lady
Young Ned (obviously)

and can I add that the bonus tracks on the remastered CD are mighty fine, particularly Star Of The County Down and The Limerick Rake. And Everyman Is A King.

Oh you know I just like the whole thing.

I'm sure I've said all this before, but just to be on the safe side.

This seems a good place to post a question to Mr. Chevron that i've been wondering about. Gridlock, which opens this album sounds nothing like any other pogues recording. In fact I'm guessing several pogues aren't even on this track (sorry my cd is not in front of me) So i was wondering what the story was with doing a track like this, opening an album with it, and the possible absence of other members on it? (BTW I love it, and it is agreat opening track, though very misleading, whenever I put on P&L and someone's never heard it is listening they assume it's going to be a jazz or swing album i have just put on :)

Scott

While I’m sure Philip will give a more accurate answer, I believe that this track was Jem’s baby mainly. I know he had tried it all before with Metropolis, but I think I remember reading that in that song he had felt a bit of pressure to still put in the Irish bits. With Gridlock he wanted an out and out jazz blast. And on Peace & Love he finally felt he had the freedom to do that.
