Post Sat Aug 04, 2007 10:47 am

Has anyone seen the below link (apols if conversations are already going on about this but i couldnt find a thread). I thought the Works was going to be the missing tracks, demos etc etc CD however it appears to be some sort of compelation CD with the live album on the third cd.

This collection, like previous Warners "generic" releases "The Very Best Of...", "The Ultimate", "the Trilogy" and so forth has nothing to do with us or our management and indeed I have a letter dated this week from our former product manager at Warners confirming that neither party was ever consulted, not because they forget, but because technically, they are not obliged to. It is considered some sort of lap of honour at companies to be "considered" for one of these series as an artist but the artist is not so easily fooled, not least because such compliation albums tend to get released with a massively reduced artsist royalty under a contract clause that is in almost EVERY record deal.

This is as good a time as any to tell you that work on the REAL box set for Warners (as broadly described by Rich above) is presently stalled because, while the good guys at Warners were working hard on this genuinely exciting project for the past few months, the bean counters were wasting time dredging up such super-rarities as "Streams Of Whiskey" so that Pogues fans could hear it all over again. As somebody said to me during the week, Warners are badly in need of a left hand at the moment so it can tell the right hand what it had said it was supposed to be doing.

All this faffing around now means that BOTH the New York concert DVD and the Box Set are stuck in Limbo until somebody up there gets a clue. They will get released, just not yet. But never mind, we all got ourselves a nice new 3CD compilation for Santa to bring us, huh? Or not. I say not.

Booooo to Warners. Might it all be sorted in time for an October release anyway?

Not the slightest chance. In the music business, August IS October.

I call it scrapping the bottom of the barrel really, however my naive ass will probably end up buying it anyway, being I'm a die hard fan. Overall, I think it a pretty decent representation of the band's entire career. However, the 3rd CD is just another rehashing of the band live in 2001 at London's Brixton Academy, this CD is already available with The Pogues" Ulitmate Collection. I think they should have thrown in a live show from either 2006 or 2007. Anyway, Philip that sucks about the live DVD and box set being shuffled aside for the moment, I can't wait to get my hands on both of those.

Bit of a pain that. I suppose they will pencil in a March 08 release date nowto coincide with St Pat's day.

I was wondering about that one myself. How did I miss the release of the IISFFG "Collector's Edition"? :? How could it be different from the remastered release?

With the greatest of respect for your frustration here, allowing Warners to just "throw in" another live show after it took us all those years to approve the one we DID release, is just adding fuel to the incendiary heap. There is an artist on Warners who shall remain nameless (but can only realistically be one of two names) who, the moment a wrong mix, an unauthorized version or a stray outtake appears by this artist on the label, instantly voids and nullifies the ENTIRE deal prior to and proceeeding from that point. Now that's what I CALL power.

The point for me is the following: Will the success or failure of this cd set have any influence on wether or when the box set will be released?

Is the tracklist ready for the box or will you work more on it? Are we just waiting for Warners to push the button?

No.

So there's no need to buy it. Except your royalties of course.

It seems that there always is shit like this going on. We have been waiting for the live album for years, and I know this is not because of the band... Oh well, I suppose its the same with all major record labels.
