I was once told that the pogues songs are all derived from old irish folk songs. is this true? The lyrics sure dont resemble in my eyes.

That is true to some extent, but Shane lyrics most of time are about the Irish experience in London.

i was hoping someone can elaborate more on that. i am quite familiar with the lyrics and how they do not relate to rish folks songs, but how original is the music? what songs contain music from old irish folk songs.

I've tried to trace the sources of inspiration, using info from the Borrowed Music thread (linked in the post above) as well as other sources. Hope it helps!

the pogues have covered some very old traditional irish folk songs
