the Specials version of "Dirty Old Town" was horrible!! :(

I don't know if that was the Specials. The Specials weren't together and recording after the Pogues's version was released and that was clearly what that was based on. It doesn't sound like the Specials either, but the singer sounds like Ali Campbell and the backing is very UB40-esque. And considering the Pogues supported UB40 once or twice that would make a lot of sense...

Also, I think the Specials would do it better lol

Dunno what version is on there but the Special DID do DOT

Right you are... Just checked it out on Amazon. And that is the one from the podcast.

Saying that, it's a bit like having an album that includes Terry Chimes and claiming it's the Clash, far too few of the important people are involved in that Specials line up.

You'd think they would, wouldn't you? A shame, that. It's from one of their reunion albums, Today's Specials, an album of covers that could have been pretty good ("Take Five", for example, is great... even tho they moved it out of 5/4 time!), but it suffered some sort of terrible smooth-jazz production. I understand the album they backed Desmond Decker on, King of Kings around the same time had the same problem. Their next, and final (thus far) album, Guilty till proved Innocent, was much, much better.

For the record, i frickin' LOVE the dub version of "Young Ned", and think it would be great to hear more of that from the Pogues.
