Pogues ska tracks?

Post Sat Jun 30, 2007 2:21 pm

I've heard a track by the pogues, like "young ned of the hill (dub version)"...and I read about some other ska or reggae type tracks they may have...could someone tell me if they know any other tracks like this??....I wish there was a CD of their ska or reggae influenced tracks only...

Apart from "Murder Ska #1" and "Murder Ska #2", there are tracks called "Pinned Down" and "Johnny Was A Prick" which have some sort of reggae or dub element. As far as I know the only released "Dub" was ever "Young Ned", but we also did some for "Wadi Hammamat" and "Smell Of Petroleum". Maybe we'll find room for some of them on the box set.

Erm :? no, not really. Sorry, I can be a sick fucker. Change the 'k' in Skat to a 'c', and if still confused, just google. Although you might prefer if you didn't.

Interesting that this should come up. I know there's only a handful of ska/reggae influenced tracks by the Pogues around, but I've always thought there were parallels between the Pogues and late 70's ska bands like the Specials - I always thought the Specials played ska shot through with punk, while the Pogues (in the early days at least) played Irish folk shot through with punk. Anyone agree?

Anything shot through with punk works for me, btw!

I don't know if that was the Specials. The Specials weren't together and recording after the Pogues's version was released and that was clearly what that was based on. It doesn't sound like the Specials either, but the singer sounds like Ali Campbell and the backing is very UB40-esque. And considering the Pogues supported UB40 once or twice that would make a lot of sense...

Also, I think the Specials would do it better lol
