there is a term for a misheard lyric Mondegreen. from the mishearing of an old Scottish folk song 'The Bonny Earl O' Murray' 'which goes
They have slain the Earl of Murray
and laid him on the green
misheard as Lady Mondegreen

Ok, try
this spelling - NYPD Choir.
And yes, it's fictional.
Eight to five someone starts up a Pogues tribute band with this name. Any takers?

I just recently, after about 16 years, found out that the captain had a "spyglass" and not a "pint glass" in his hand.

My brother was convinced that "The sidewinder sleeps tonite" by REM sang "Only in Jamaica", while it's a very difficult to hear "call when you try to wake her up"
when I first heard Red Kola by the Nyah Fearties (played by Junkman's Choir in Glasgow, while opening to the Pogues 2006), I thought its title was Greg Collar

You and me both. But at least we did not mishear "babe" for "Shane", unlike poor old Liam Clancy.

Definitely for a long time I thought it was "robots".
Someone in an earlier comment mentioned the "didgeridoos being washed away in the rain" in "white city." I was always confused about what that song was about. hah.
