Ooohh it was way back in the 80's,there was a music show on TV called the tube which I used to watch.I saw the Pogues video of Waxie's Dargle with Spider whacking himself over the head with a beer tray!
I hadn't heard anything like it before and was instantly hooked, next day I went into the record store and asked for any Pogues records,I came away with Red Roses for me!
Never looked back since.......
I drink therefore I am....

It must have been "streams of whiskey" and it was definitely more than 15 years ago... and since that day i´m a fan.

My first pogues song was Billys Bones which i downloaded because the Dropkick Murphys did a cover of it. Once i heard it i went to a record store and bought the london girl 12" and quickly bought all their other cds.

Young ned of the Hill is the one I remember the most, but there was probably something before that that got my attention. Took me weeks to get an "import" cassett so I could listen to them. Waaaaay before file sharing or even wide internet use

Mine was Haunted. A friend of mine was always going on about the Pogues so when I saw Haunted in a bargain bin I bought it. The next day (Saturday) I went to my local record shop and they had Red Roses and Rum, Sodomy. I bought Rum, Sodomy. I got home and was blown away by it. After listening to the first few songs on side one I remember looking at my watch and deciding to go back into town there and then to buy Red Roses before the shops shut, as I didn't want to have to wait until Monday to buy it. That was in 1987 and my life has never been the same since!

I think it may have been If I should Fall from Grace with God. Excellent song and a wonderful album.

Come to think of it, I believe Sunny Side of the Street was first. Doesn't matter, all good stuff! 8) :D

Dirty Old Town. My dad was given a Best Of... for his birthday. I kept listenning to that first song. It was the only one I listenned to for quite a while, but then I realised how many other wonderful songs there were. It was easier when I only liked one...

First song!

Post Mon May 23, 2005 1:06 am

The year was 1989 the date 23 december, and i had just turned 13.It was late at night i remember sitting there listen to the radio exited about the christmas to come. The snow was falling down outside. Then suddenly i heard a voice on the radio, a voice that was nothing like i have heard before It was so raw but at same time so warm so full of life and wisdom. It blew me away. Then the song changed and another beutiful voice start singing, and the melodi all those instruments playing toghter. It was like a FAIRYTALE. That night my life changed and i got the best christmas present ever. Since that day i have laugh, cried, loved, fought, boozed but always with a tune of the Pogues somewhere in my head

The song that was played on the radio that night Fairytale of New York
