Now that's intelligent talk!
It was on the 23rd of June
As I lay blasted in my room
A small bird sang on an ivy branch
And the song they sang was the "Jug of Punch"

While Hell's Ditch is more worldy affair that the pervious Pogue's records; this one is even viciously dismissed by MacGowan himself, it still is a wonderful album. The Pogues stretched their musical boundaries more adding Middle Eastern, Far East, and Spanish sounds to their mix, so that would explain the more relaxed air and wordly vibe.

MacGowan's originals, especially "Sayonara," "Summer In Siam," and "House of the Gods," drew on his experiences that he drew from spending a much needed holiday in Thailand. Hell's Ditch like Peace and Love, finds the band branching off and exploring more musical sounds, that would explain why some fans were confused. However, the end result of Hell's Ditch was still a much worthy effort.

i just love hells ditch, and the thai references are always quite humourous since the boy I live with is from Thailand. Last New Years, he brought some Singha beer from the local oriental market and while he seemed to enjoy it, it seemed rather tame to me.

it is fun listening to the album and all the Thai references to places and having Mi say, hey I know where that is hehe

I love the album. Despite what Shane thinks, I think it was a good area for the Pogues to explore. It sounded a lot different, but it fit.
