ah, i was wondering when someone would chime in with London Girl. I like it, its "peppy". but you are so right with Rainy Night In Soho.

London Your'e a Lady
Dark Streets of London

Transmetropolitan
White City

These are the main ones i can think of, off the top of my head, all good songs.

Incidentally, there used to be a dog track called White City in Manchester too, not far from the Old Trafford cricket and football grounds.

That song is bloody awful.

I beg to differ - I think it's a marvellous song.

They could've put Anti-Nowhere League's version 8)

If "London You're A Lady" is based upon anything, it's the work of the harper Turlough O'Carolan, but the title is a nod to the sentimental 1970s pop song "Limerick, You're A Lady".

???? Despite of you being located in Liverpool I wouldn't expect such a statement. Dark Streets of London belongs among the classic songs, lyrics and music from Shane's hand. That's a fact, no discussion.

Streets of London is a Ralph McTell song, not to be confused with Dark Streets Of London, which is not.

Not seen the nomination list, my dizzy mind went straight to DARK Streets of London. Sorry Heather, as I said I wouldn't expect it. Thanks Philip for sorting out my confusion :-)

One of my favourite, if not my number one, Pogues track.

A scandal that it's not in there.

Damn you all,

played through The Pogues' London tracks to get my choice for this poll, first up Red Roses for Me: -

Transmetropolitan - not bad
Dark Streets of London - cue one homesick Londoner going through messy break up in floods of tears and wishing he was 600 miles further south.

Still, it beats all the bland pop sh*te that has no relevence to anyone.

Oh yeah, and i'd still go with Dark Streets of London, "then the winter came down and i loved it so dearly..."

NW3, that's another one (though it was of course never officially released...)

Does "County Hell" refer to London?

As for other artists, I'm very fond of Kirsty MacColl's song Soho Square.

I was under the impression "County Hell" was generic, the "County" implying Ireland, though that album spreads itself from a battle in Brisbane to hunting whales off Greenland
