I shop at two independent record shops in Virginia. Skinnnies in Norfolk and Fantasy in Newport News. I strongly support these shops being that they have rare CDs. I also sometimes shop at Volume CDs. I refuse to shop at FYE (MTV generation record shops,) unless I have too, which most of times means never.

My credit card hurting, I recently visited one of two local FYE's to purchase Decemberists tickets. The kid at the counter informed me that they probably didn't have 'em on sale...and then asked me if they would sell out fast.It was 10 AM on the first day of sale.

Kid cracked me up! I liked him.

Actually, the search for decent record shops remains a constant in Pogues touring life, especially by Jem, Darryl and Spider. Music shops are popular too. Darryl bought a new old bass (EB3) in Chicago yesterday and Terry got himself a Gibson mandolin in Dundalk last week.

If anyoneis on the search while in Philly may I reccomend AKA Music on N. 2nd Street, right off of Market and 2nd. Streets. My favorite place in the world to browse and shop for CDs and vinyl.

I bought Hells Ditch on vinyl there about two years ago.

Is that the one that's in the basement?? I used to live in Liverpool and I remember a cool second hand record shop that was down some stairs, I'm sure that was on Bold Street... can't remember what it was called.

Also Penny Lane Records used to be ace, dunno if it is still there though. I still have the white vinyl version of Nirvana Unplugged I bought in there for £7, brand new. It's worth a wee bit more than that now...

There was also a very good Chain With No Name shop in Liverpool - quite a few good record shops kicking around when I was there. I remember buying myself a Neil Young album from that one when I got my student loan. It got broken some years later and I had to repurchase it off Ebay!

Hi DITG - you a yellerbelly then? I was born and raised up there and even got to see the Pogues at the Scunthorpe Baths Hall in 1988.

Yea, I live in a village called Binbrook about ten miles from Market Rasen. I have lived here all my life but I was born in Grimsby.

No it's not in a basement.

Actually I've just remembered the name, it's called Hairy Records.

Don't remember that one. If I ever find myself in that neck of the woods I'll look it up though.

Wow, isn't the internet a small place! I went to school in Rasen and also went to a wedding in Louth last year (does Billcliffe ring a bell) the first wedding i have ever been to! I love it up here but i am going to university at either Wales or LSE. To me Lincoln is the biggest city in the world!

I mean apart from occasional visits to London and Manchester and once to NYC, Prague and Paris Lincoln is the biggest place i have ever been to. I have spent less than a week of my life in cities, far to confusing for a bumpkin like me.
