Go for the Del MCoury Band and listen to Del´s "high and lonesome" vocals. :D

I have a baritone voice which only goes past F# (the "are" in "Thousands ARE sa-il-ling") with great difficulty and a song written for Tenor would be out of the question. My voice gives the impression of being naive or ingenu because that's the way I choose to project it. I can sound worldly if I need to, but it serves my songs less well.

For real, proper high pitch stuff, check out the great counter-tenors Andreas Scholl and James Bowman. Scholl in particular has a terrific Handel recital on CD.

I have fond memories of the way they played Rainy Night In Soho in Guildford two years ago and I also prefer the Brixton recording to the original version.
And I like most RRFM songs better in their live incarnation, they very much benefit from the fuller sound of the later lineup.

Thanks Mr C, I'll look into that.
