-The Holy Ground (unreleased from the "Almost Live" disc)
-Anything from the "Almost Live" disc!!
-Anything from the Terry Woods/IISFFGWG sessions
-A possible extra disc, featuring Strummer live - I think I remember reading that there's a soundboard recording worthy of release..
-any demos/rough mixes

This will probably make my year, can't wait...

There are no imminent plans to issue any Pogues with Joe Strummer live recordings. We do indeed have an entire show on multitrack 2" tape (The Forum, London in 1991) but it's never been mixed and any future public availability of this work will depend on the cooperation of the Joe Strummer estate. There is no reason to suppose this would be witheld (or granted) but I think we all feel the time is not yet right.

It´s hard to express one´s feelings, sure, but can you imagine what would have to happen so you have the right feeling to release this live CD ? I was lucky to see The Pogues & Mr Strummer way back in 1991 in Hannover and I remember liking it a lot, so I´d be happy to have a proper live recording of that tour on CD.

Are there any unreleased studio sessions featuring Mr Strummer? Is there any temptation whatsoever to test the waters and record a couple of new tracks for onclusion in the box set Philip? Also, do you know if it will be getting a full international release (not all the rereleases are available on local release in Australia)

How 'bout one new track to promote the box set? Not that it needs much promotion since us Pogues fans seem to be as rabid as any. We'll pay $60+ for tickets to the show, road trip / fly across countries and oceans to see them, and most of us would probably drop up to $100 for a box set.

I wonder what will happen first, the Pogues tire of playing the same songs live and re-mixing/re-releasing older songs, or the fans tire of dropping cash on the same show and songs.

Forgive me if I come across as grumpy, I'm just curious, and I, for one, have got another few years of absorbing whatever it is the Pogues throw at me, musically, of course.

This whole boxset discussion makes me nearly as happy as the fourth show in Boston news...great year thus far.

I also can't wait for this Box Set to come out. :D
I wouldn't mind hearing a good version of I've Been A Rover with Shane and Nick Cave.

I'm really thrilled to hear that the box set will soon be a reality.

My request: Err on the side of inclusion!

Don´t think there is a good version of this that would qualify on record. Shane also did this with the Popes so very unlikely that it will end up on a Pogues album.

Can´t wait for the box. Since I have all the official stuff I personally hope for as much unreleased and demos as possible even if the quality isn´t the best. The Pogues waited almost 20 years to release a live album because they were not happy with the quality so I hope you´re not so critical about the rarities.

Would be great to hear the studio version of Donegal Express. I only have it live and it´s brilliant, love the instrumental part at the end of the song.
Is it also on the demo? Has anyone heard it? I´ve heard the same tune with an Irish band I can´t remember the name of. Can Philip please help telling the name of this tune? If you remember.

Phil, did you boys ever record "Japan", the Pharaoh Sanders tune that you briefly played live in, erm, Japan in the late 80s? I have a live version of it from 1988 and it's absolutely awesome. I love Terry's mandolin (?) playing on it in particular. Just wondering if you ever recorded any demos of it - if so that would be a great one for inclusion on the fabled box set.

No we didn't. We just learned it that afternoon in Tokyo. And Mats, sorry, I'm useless with the names of ancient Irish tunes. Or, at least I always know them by titles other than Terry Woods names them. And, as he wrote most of them, I bow to his superior knowledge.

I never cease to be amazed by the swiftness of your replies Mr C. Thanks.

Shame it was never recorded (properly I mean), but that's life. Thanks again for the superfast response!

I know there are various lost demos from the Hells Ditch recordings, but are there any from the recordings of the other albums? Or any recordings from before Red Roses For Me? I'd love to hear some really early stuff.

Mats, there is a demo version of Donegal Express by the Pogues.. a very nice tune with train bells at the start of the song.
Japan would be lovely in the boxset.. the live version is very good as it came from the tv..
