Boxed set

Post Fri Feb 02, 2007 7:07 am

This sounds very exciting Philip-I'd like to second the other poster's thoughts and full steam ahead!

Can't make it to the east coast this year (wife, kids, dogs, mortgage..), but have a great time and knock 'em dead...

Box-Set Wish List ...

Post Sat Feb 03, 2007 7:45 pm

If the box will be four discs, then the "leftover" previously-released rarities I'd like to see included should only occupy one whole disc:

Haunted
Junk Theme
Hot Dogs with Everything
The Irish Rover [Extended Version]
If I Should Fall from Grace with God [Remix]
Sally MacLennane [Live]
A Pair of Brown Eyes [Live]
Maggie May [Live]
The Sick Bed of Cuchulainn [Live]
Dirty Old Town [Live]
Kitty [Live]
Young Ned of the Hill [Dub Version]
Whiskey in the Jar [Extended Version]
Hell's Ditch [Instrumental]
Got a Lot O'Livin' to Do
Miss Otis Regrets / Just One of Those Things
In and Out
Turkish Song of the Damned [Live]
London Calling [Live]
I Fought the Law [Live]

Which would still leave three discs worth of previously-unreleased material :)

What about putting it up to a vote by the forum members? Or else maybe something along the lines of Richard Thompson's latest box; with a limited-edition bonus disc being made available to customers who pre-ordered through the website or something similar?

What are you crazy? It'll be hard enough getting all the Pogues to agree on the final choices without adding the Billy Bunters into the mix too. But thanks for the helpful list.

You MUST included Me and Bobby McGee, one of the funniest roughest pogues tracks ever! (and ten times better then any other recording of that song ever made :) Also I'm not a fan of live stuff, unless it's a song there is no studio version of, so don't forget for consideration tracks like Draklands, My Girl, Goodnight Irene, White Light White Heat etc. assuming there are better recordings or quality recordings of these floating about. Also i know im in the minority hear, but would love to hear at leasta sample of shane's acid house track from Peace and Love. lol I don't buy cd's anymore, but I will definatly buy this box set, I don't care if it's expensive, so throw in as many tracks as possible!!! (of course you could always do one like nick Cave's rarity set, which was three discs and only cost $20 new, with minmal inserts, it relyed soley on the music.)

Ah, but there's the rub.................there aren't.

Minority or silent majority, it no longer exists and has not done since 1989.

Well, by all accounts, one would've gotten the impression that this boxed set was still about a decade away.

There's no time like the present, what with so many people making money off these recordings on ebay.

I hope I speak for most, that I'll buy the official release of anything, whether I have 5 copies of it already, or none.

I also agree with others that I'd personally like a Beatle's Anthology type of boxed set, but at the same time, it'd be nice if one could actually listen to it and enjoy it.

Chronological would make the most sense in any respect.

I'm really looking forward to this, as I've yet to hear most of the recent rarities that have surfaced in recent years. with the exception of the Hell's Ditch sessions, the quality of which, in my possesion, sounds like garbage.

Whatever you decide on, just send it all to tv's CSI, they'll clean it up like magic ;)

Oh yeah and Mr. C... you should include the rare version of Rake at the Gates of Hell that is at the end of the cassette version of the OG soundtrack, as i've never heard a decent recording of it :) (unless you plan on saving it for the 30th anniversary reissue of STH!!!)

I'm not sure I know about this one. Cassette only? What makes it different from the regular version?

If it's the version I think it is, it's significantly slower than the one you usually hear. It sounds like a completely different take, different vocal, etc. I think it might be different enough to be worth hearing.

Hope that helps...

Yeah it's a little slower, it starts wioth howling, like that of a wolf (probably just shane though) and the the instramental part between the chorus and verse sounds like just an accordion, instead of the full orchestral accompaniment of the original version. I can email u an mp3 of it, for refrence sake, as I can guarantee the mp3 I have of it is not of studio quality, probably a few genrations from tape being copied before being converted into mp3 format.

Isn't this the version that's used in the actual soundtrack, and can be seen/heard as the title credits roll on the DVD of Straight to Hell? The howling wolf (coyote?) is just part of the film. It's longer than the album version.

I'd like to see some of the following, although I'm not holding my breath on the live takes:

-The Holy Ground (unreleased from the "Almost Live" disc)
-Anything from the "Almost Live" disc!!
-Anything from the Terry Woods/IISFFGWG sessions
-A possible extra disc, featuring Strummer live - I think I remember reading that there's a soundboard recording worthy of release..
-any demos/rough mixes

This will probably make my year, can't wait...
