Are you the guy who threw the beer bottle from the floor up to the balcony? Or was that the 2nd Vegas show I saw that happen? My memory has begun to fail me in my old age...

Funny you should bring that up...

It was that first night when that happened but I'm not that guy. I'm the guy that HE took it from (it was actually an empty can of Guinness) and then proceeded to throw into the balcony.

Him: "Hey are you finished with that?"
Me: "Yeah."
Him: "Let me see it. [takes can] You like the fuckin Pogues man?"
Me: "Fuck yeah dude."
Him: "This is for you! [throws can]"

Why it was "for me" I'll never know. I would also like to add that I knew nothing about his intentions. He wanted to see the empty can and I had no further use for it... I was in a very bad state that night and couldn't fully comprehend what was happening until security escorted the guy away.

Just shortly after that I stumbled to the restroom and, I'm guessing because security thought I had something to do with it, told me I had to leave the venue.

My ex, who was with me on the trip (that is to say she was taking care of me on the trip), stayed for the rest of the show (and was even invited to the bands balcony area) as I walked back the mile and a half to our motel room, and then ended up needing me to go back and find her because she was no better off than I was and had gotten lost in some empty mall next to the HOB after having herself wondered around the streets by the highway.

I was able to catch the next nights show with my parents who were nice enough to fly out to catch their first Pogues' show. It was a wonderful night (the second one, not so much the first...) and made for an incredibly interesting trip. Many a story came out of those few days...

Do you know if anyone was hurt?

Ah Yes, now I do remember it being a can. It looked to me like he threw it at someone he knew. It did not appear that anyone was hurt.

I am pretty sure I saw the guy that threw the can back in the venue right after Against Me finished their set.

I'm very glad to hear that no one was hurt. As much of a drunken bastard as I am (I'm drunk right now as a matter of fact...) I would like to think I have saved a few of my Catholic school morals in my back pocket over the years...even if i tend to sit on them from time to time.

If you do'nt mind me asking, Cadillac, where were you seated/stand-ed that allowed you to watch this whole chapter of my, until now, anonymous life unfold before your eyes (I'll leave the "do'nt" as it is, so as to add some emphisis on the previous "I'm drunk now" statement)?

My wife and I were sitting in the balcony 2nd row right above Spider, Darryl and Jem (right above "stage left"). We were directly across from the location that the beer can was tossed.

The security was as uptight as I've ever seen at any show. I had a few ridiculously wound-up wanna-be skinhead looking guys staring at me all night because they caught one of their birds making eyes at me. And for some reason it seemed that after that, the security guys were watching me just as much. After I saw a couple of people ejected, I was afraid to breathe, having dropped almost $2k for flight, hotel, tickets to both shows, etc.
I have seen Shane McGowan in Austin once before, but this was my first Pogues show. It was very emotional for me I guess. When they played Rainy Night in Soho I realized that tears were streaming down my face. The first time my wife has seen that in the 17 years she's known me. She looked worried, it was kind of funny.

I've cried to Rainy Night as well.
It was the morning after the December 23 show in Dublin in '05. It was the first show of theirs I had ever seen and will go down as one of the best all around experiences of my life. I had flown from Japan to Dublin just for the show and fell in love with the country and the women.
One young woman I will never forget. I was on the train coming back from Limerick after a couple of days of sightseeing. I was sitting across from her and a few chairs down the way and couldn't help but stare at her the entire trip. She caught me a couple of times and smiled to herself each time that I would shy away. She had the most incredible eyes and I finally got up the nerve to ask her to lunch after we arrived in Dublin but she refused saying she was only in town for a day to see her sister. I couldn't get her out of my mind.
What's worse is that, with all my nervousness I never even thought to ask her name...at least then I would have SOMEthing to go on.
The next day I waited in that train station for about 8 hours with a rose hoping to see her again. What I was going to say to her I had no idea, but I had that rose! I had to leave to meet up with a friend I had made online who agreed to show me around the city while I was there. I never saw her again.
The country, the girl, the show, my dream vacation. All of it together was too much to emotionally handle for me and a few tears of sorrow and joy find their way out of me on that last morning as Rainy Night played.
Hearing that song still brings back those few days and every now and then my eyes will glisten. The line that does it for me is "sometimes I wake up in the morning, the ginger lady by my bed. Covered in a cloak of silence, I hear you talkin in my head."
I vow to find that girl and dance with her to that song. Only then will I ever find peace! :)
I'll tell you, though, if the Pogue's do Dublin again this year I will try my damndest to be there, rose in hand with my eyes peeled! And if worse comes to worse I'm sure I can find at least one lovely young lass to dance with me to that song.
Lend me ten pounds, I'll buy you a drink.

it means i would've had some hope at finding her again. i was planning on making my way back to limerick and asking around for her if i had to!
actually, though, the more i think about it now the more it sounds like i'd be stalking her.
but if i were to find her and things turn out alright it'd be real romantic wouldn't it? an american searching for his one true irish love that he only saw once and returned to look for her not even knowing her name...it's the stuff movies are made of.
there appears to be a fine line between romance and criminal activity! and the way i drink i doubt she'd find romance in a stumbling bafoon handing over a dozen roses and a dinner proposal.
some might say that you have a better chance of keeping balance when you're walking the thin line between love and obsession if you're not drunk!
i've gotta tell you, though, mick, she was incredibly beautiful. over a year and a half later and i can still remember her face.
you know the kind of girl i'm talking about mick?

Much of the activity that happens in romantic-comedy films would not lead to a happy relationship. In real life the activity would often lead to arrest and/or a restraining order.

i completely agree DzM. which is why when i become a great movie director i will refrain from using my imagination and instead look for my material in publicly available police records. i'll just change the endings a bit. :)

Anyone know of a progress report for the box set? Still set for September/October release?

Cheers!

There have been some changes at Warners, including the international streamlining (read: downsizing) of their Rhino imprint. There's no reason to suppose at this stage that the release of the Pogues Box will be affected, but one never knows for sure.

We don't know yet. I'd say it's likely to be either 3 or 4, depending on how the final selection seems to hang together. [/i]

So will they be about 70-80 minutes then? And do you know how they will be organised? Like in era or 'genre'?

No, not yet. Right now I'm just trying to stop a few dozen tracks swimming around my head vying for attention and priority! Out of chaos WILL come order, I am confident.
