Ezreal wrote:I do happen to have a cassette that I can transfer over to CD for you if you wish. I hope it's not too late; I wish I had seen this appearl earlier. I got the cassette in trade for recording a bunch of Yes stuff for a person back in the mid-'90s. I guess someone in the band was not too happy that he had sent me the tape, so I promised not to redistribute it (and kept that promise, by the way).

It's mainly demos, but I think there's some live stuff with Joe Strummer on it as well. Here's what it is:

1. Sunnyside of the Street
2. Hell's Ditch
3. House of the Gods
4. Six to Go
5. Infinity
6. Lorca's Novena
7. Siam
8. Terry's Air
9. Squid
10. NW3
11. Murder
12. Eve of Destruction
13. Rain Street
14. Curse of Love
15. Maiden Run
16. Rainbow Man
17. Ghost of a Smile
18. McGee
19. Bastard Landlord
20. Aisling
21. Wake of the Medusa
22. 5 Green Queens
23. Pinned Down
24. Shane MacGowan and Jem Finer-Streams of Whiskey
25. Kissing the Pink-Mikimoto
26. Love + Money
27. Sighs of Love
28. Beauty Queen

A couple of the titles are approximate (due to the handwriting) and I don't know if Kissing the Pink is related to the Pogues in any fashion. If you can use any of this, let me know and I'll send it to you. My email address is ezreal@cox.net.

What, is there actually a version of Aisling recorded by The Pogues!?
Will that be on the boxset?

ETA?

So we've heard a bit about this box set, and possible tracks to be included...did I miss a post with mention of when it might be released? Just a wee bit curious.

It's looking like late September/early October 2007, in time for the 25th Anniversary at any rate.

Thanks to all of you who have offered or supplied items for consideration. Even as recently as last week, I was still getting kind offers of material, but we have now reached a point where I am just saying thanks but no thanks to duplications, so please don't be offended if I did not get back to you. Unless, at this stage, you have something exceptionally special, we're all done here. We are still hunting down master tapes too, but that's a different matter. We seem to be well covered at this point for the Ewan MacColl songs as well as Donegal Express etc and album outtakes and demos. Which is not to say that anything is yet ruled in or out of the anthology, just that we seem to have most of the source material in place.

Thanks. Not just for the info, but for the effort put into such a project. I only wish I had something to contribute (other than my $ for the finished product).

Looking forward to September / October. :D

Just be sure when you are finally deciding which songs will go in or out - us Pogues fans don´t want perfect music, but we want Pogues music ! We don´t mind an occasional flaw in playing or singing. And I guess most of us are really interested in hearing songs which were considered for recording or for live shows but then dropped for various reasons. We´d like to dig into Pogues history. As much as you let us of course, but for us there´d be hardly any barriers.

All in all, whichever songs you choose, it´s safe to say you won´t lose any dear Pogues fan. :D

I know this probably won't happen, but wouldn't it be great for there to be a disc of unreleased live stuff from the reunion tours? I'd love to have things like Poor Paddy, Kitty, Star of the County down, Parting Glass, Auld Triangle etc.

Frankly, I'm still hoping for a release of the "missing" tracks from the brixton academy CD. County down, primarily amongst them.

Yeah, frankly speaking I hope the Boxset will be a set of 34 dvds with all music ever recorded by the Pogues and sideprojects of the Pogues

suggestion for philipchevron

Post Thu Mar 22, 2007 8:36 pm

Any thoughts of doing one disc as a Nirvana unplugged type thing, only covering traditional irish tunes or other songs you like? Any "new" Pogues material would, even if you guys don't write it, would be fantastic.

Actually I heard rumor Shane wrote an entire album worth of "grunge" material, that should be in the box as well. heh.

If so, would you consider it? Or any song with Kirsty (other than the usual
Miss Otis or FTONY) live? Just a thought :)

It appeared in the show for a while when the Peace And Love album was released, though I cannot recall if Kirsty ever performed it live with us. No plans to revive it.

Sorry, wasn't clear, was asking about inclusion on the boxed set, not
the live show (I know you don't like us whining about that topic.) Thanks.

I have no problem with whining about the live show. I merely see no point in my engaging with it much except perhaps to correct factual errors. But anyway, because the answer to what I took to be your question is "no", the answer to what you meant your question to be is also "no". Could I also take this opportunity to note (not to you, Mike) that the Pogues have no desire to "matter", like Radiohead if that entails constant, daily revision of our core repertoire. Future generations will look at the Pogues setlist and see only a plethora of quality songs, some of which will by then be part of the lingua franca. What they will not see is the conspicuous absence of "Dark Streets Of London".

Phil-just read this post tonight. Very funny. Thanks for the Radiohead mention. Let me tell you, you guys "mattered" last Friday in Philly. Thanks so much. Despite my occaisional whining (some of it is done with tongue planted firmly in cheek), I continue to convert others to your band. I actually now have some grandchildren (people who have been turned onto The Pogues by people I've converted to The Pogues).

Oh, by the way- Radiohead at The Tower June 2006-98 out of 100...
Pogues at Electric Factory-March 2007-99.5 out of 100.

Like Howard C. and Keith O., you gotta "tell it like it is."

I am a passionate fan, sometimes maybe too passionate. It sure as hell beats being lukewarm.
Here is your beverage...five cents a cup of ice!!!
