Dear sirs. What about putting on the john peel tapes of the songs from rum sodomy era, or any BBC recordings you have. Iv'e got a record with Sally Maclennan at the BBC but I know that the old main drag was also covered. Also self Aid was a fun concert that I taped off the radio and listen to alot. And "Hot dogs with everything" (never heard it would like to)
ps.

Our BBC sessions are certainly up for consideration. Australia is too damn cold.

Lorelei Live

Post Tue Mar 13, 2007 6:05 pm

Was this ever performed live with Kirsty doing the background vocals?
If so, would you consider it? Or any song with Kirsty (other than the usual
Miss Otis or FTONY) live? Just a thought :)

It appeared in the show for a while when the Peace And Love album was released, though I cannot recall if Kirsty ever performed it live with us. No plans to revive it.

Sorry, wasn't clear, was asking about inclusion on the boxed set, not
the live show (I know you don't like us whining about that topic.) Thanks.

I have no problem with whining about the live show. I merely see no point in my engaging with it much except perhaps to correct factual errors. But anyway, because the answer to what I took to be your question is "no", the answer to what you meant your question to be is also "no". Could I also take this opportunity to note (not to you, Mike) that the Pogues have no desire to "matter", like Radiohead if that entails constant, daily revision of our core repertoire. Future generations will look at the Pogues setlist and see only a plethora of quality songs, some of which will by then be part of the lingua franca. What they will not see is the conspicuous absence of "Dark Streets Of London".

I could not agree with Mr. Chevron more. Clash/Mescalero fans are now looking back and just wishing they could have just one more chance to see Joe play live regardless what the setlist is. Keep that in mind and relish the expereince while you still can.

Thats right, I really, really hope I can see The Pogues again soon, and I don't care if the setlist is exactly the same as when I saw them in 2005.

6 Degrees...

Post Wed Mar 14, 2007 9:40 pm

First off, I saw the show in Chicago last week (drove up from Minneapolis) and it was great fun! I can only imagine how wild New York will be.

I was thinking back to how I discovered the Pogues...in 1987 I saw a video on MTV of XTC performing "Dear God", and as a 16 year old atheist who never heard that kind of music (boring classic rock and top 40 up until then) I immediately biked to the CD shop looking for weird, underground music by atheists. I eventually stumbled upon a CD called "If I Should Fall From Grace With God" and snapped it up not knowing who they were and what kind of music they played. My thought was they were a group of rebellious heretic's...which I guess to some they were but for completely different reason's. I was a little shocked by the first couple of songs, intrigued by "Bottle of Smoke" and hooked by "Fairytale of NY". Just the greatest band ever.

I think the reason I find this so ironic is that I read in an interview with Shane Macgowan that he list's Jesus as one of his greatest heroes. If I had known this I may not even have given their music a listen! What a mistake that would have been...

Can't wait for the box set...I am especially glad to hear it will be catered to us die hards!

You know, that's the best argument I've ever heard for a band to keep a consistent setlist in their shows. I certainly hope songs like "Thousands are Sailing" and "The Body of an American" become the lingua franca when describing the Irish in America.

I do happen to have a cassette that I can transfer over to CD for you if you wish. I hope it's not too late; I wish I had seen this appearl earlier. I got the cassette in trade for recording a bunch of Yes stuff for a person back in the mid-'90s. I guess someone in the band was not too happy that he had sent me the tape, so I promised not to redistribute it (and kept that promise, by the way).

It's mainly demos, but I think there's some live stuff with Joe Strummer on it as well. Here's what it is:

1. Sunnyside of the Street
2. Hell's Ditch
3. House of the Gods
4. Six to Go
5. Infinity
6. Lorca's Novena
7. Siam
8. Terry's Air
9. Squid
10. NW3
11. Murder
12. Eve of Destruction
13. Rain Street
14. Curse of Love
15. Maiden Run
16. Rainbow Man
17. Ghost of a Smile
18. McGee
19. Bastard Landlord
20. Aisling
21. Wake of the Medusa
22. 5 Green Queens
23. Pinned Down
24. Shane MacGowan and Jem Finer-Streams of Whiskey
25. Kissing the Pink-Mikimoto
26. Love + Money
27. Sighs of Love
28. Beauty Queen

A couple of the titles are approximate (due to the handwriting) and I don't know if Kissing the Pink is related to the Pogues in any fashion. If you can use any of this, let me know and I'll send it to you. My email address is ezreal@cox.net.

Goodnight Irene

I have a terrible recording of "Goodnight Irene" with Kirsty singing on it. I pray that a good version ends up on the box set, Shane also sings great on it.
